I’m sure every department at Citrus College is different but my experience in the Architecture department was a very negative one. The head of the department- at the end of the day, when all is said and done- is caring and has a vast amount of knowledge but spends 90% of class time speaking about his personal life: his diet (how he can eat avocado, how he can’t, how he can now, but now he can’t, how he can, how he can’t again...you get the picture), his son, past colleagues, his health, his wife, where he buys his sweaters, etc. and then assumes that you have the tools you need to complete projects.
It’s a very chaotic and unstructured environment. There’s literally no idea of a lesson plan or of things he even wants to teach. You will want to pull your hair out in frustration at how much time you spend listening to a complete stranger’s personal life. I think he genuinely loves being there and loves spending time with his students but it seems that it’s more because it’s a platform for him to speak about his life and socialize. He means well, in that old school way, where he gets to say whatever he wants and if you take the slightest offense, you’re a snowflake who’s too precious, PC, and thin skinned, yet he is constantly disrespectful to people he has very little rapport with or knowledge of.
He speaks about students’ weight, their looks, and gives nicknames to people that they clearly aren’t comfortable with. He thinks this is okay and everyone is too sensitive these days but good lord, this is supposed to be a professional environment...not someone’s playground for overstepping and being way too familiar and flippant.
He and his wife (also an Arch professor) preferred to back up a professor in their department even though students over many semesters had expressed their concern and frustration at their treatment, education, and grades. When I emailed the dean (after going to the head of department with no result) about the situation (because I was basically nominated to go into battle by my class of 20 people who were floundering under this nightmare professor) I was told that he would look into it and then get back to me. He never got back to me and the head of the department and his wife just all glared at me from afar and never addressed the situation and never tried to step in or even offer a solution; such as extra work for those who cared about their grades!
This was an extreme mishandling of the situation by the department and the dean. Definitely some good ol’ boys, “protect your own kind” kind of business going on here. Just be careful and keep detailed records of indiscretions and email the dean and let your voice be heard because something is rotten here and it will be...
Read moreThe campus security of this Citrus College is the most money-gouging and manipulative department I have ever seen anywhere PERIOD! My wife went to attend a night class and parked in an student open-parking lot where she has already bought a semester parking permit. Yet she was given a parking violation ticket - for what? Could you believe in this day and age just for parking head-out in the marked parking spot because there was so few cars in the lot that she had the courtesy to pull ahead to park at the next row? Isn't parking with your head out safer than with the car's butt out (when you need to reverse your car to get out with limited vision and a lot of blind spots if not careful)? OK, so we appeal and disputed the ticket online. It was refused! But was given a second in-person appeal by calling in for info. My wife called and was told that the officer handling the appeal would come only once a month, BUT wife was given a date which was one day late! Deliberately or not you can only guess! We arrived at campus security den to find out that the personal appeal session was just yesterday! They overwhelmingly denied that they had given a wrong date over the phone! Unflinching liars who even mocked us by saying that we were too loud in our frustration! Heck! Did they expect thank you's and flowers for their "great job?" I would be OK if given a ticket for any head out or back-in parking that would cause imminent danger to anyone or any building structure (in some places the posted highly visible signs to that effect warning against head-out/back-in parking as it would hit an air vent, lamp post, railing or something). But parking in an open-air wide space parking lot that is sparsely populated at night without any clear visible signs about this antiquated rule? Tell me one thing Campus Security, why do you even have such a rule in the first place??? Citrus College's campus security is not better than a bunch of overzealous cops-wanna-be practicing law in the dark ages without reason but on per se basis only! Blah! Visitors and students...
Read moreThis was my first college experience after High School And has been a beneficial part of my education. The teachers here truly enjoy their jobs and care about their students. They only encourage and want the best successful experience for their students!! Plus it has been easier to obtain entry into the more important classes needed (calculus, biology, chemistry, Etc..) A very hard thing to come across in any school now a days. I attended here, left to try Chaffey due to the proximity of my residence and was the Most Regretful decision I’ve ever made. I completed the semester class and immediately...
