Called ahead and asked if they did appraisals. Our family had found a bracelet on the ground and wanted to see what it was made of. I went in there and asked the woman working if I could have it appraised, she replied quite abruptly that a proper appraisal would cost money. I asked her if she could tell me if it was at least gold or what kind of style it was..she took it in the back, came back to the front and told me rudely that it wasn't gold(which is fine, we don't care about it - nor paid anything for it..) and that the clasp was broken. I literally demonstrated how perfectly the clasp worked and asked what kind of clasp it was. She looked at me like I was stupid and said, "box clasp".
