Meijer has always been my goto grocery store in any area I’ve resided. I moved to Grand Haven a couple months ago and have been extremely disappointed with this Meijer location. There has been multiple occasions that the employees have mad me feel uncomfortable by making unnecessary comments. For example one employee said “don’t forget to pay” while I was loading bags into the cart at the self check out a few weeks ago. I’ve continued to brush these unnecessary/unprofessional comments off to avoid any confrontation but often leave the store feeling very degraded and embarrassed. Today was the last straw. Today my boyfriend and I got Starbucks from inside the store before grocery shopping. Somehow we were charged 84 dollars for 2 drinks, which we didn’t notice until checking out with our groceries when my boyfriend checked his account. Mistakes happen and we weren’t upset but we didn’t wanna lose 70 dollars so we went back to the Starbucks counter and explained the situation. The employee was extremely polite and told us the customer service counter would help. When we approached the woman at customer service we explained the situation and showed her the charge on the account through my phone since we hadn’t gotten the receipt from Starbucks. Her immediate response was, “wouldn’t the charge show up as Starbucks not Meijer?” and asked a cashier to come over to assist us. The cashiers tone was very unfriendly and confrontational. Not once did either of these employees apologize for the inconvenience or show any empathy. A manager printed off the transaction and apologized for the mistake and walked us over to the Starbucks counter to get refunded. I’m not sure what what said between the manager and one of the Starbucks employees but the employee turned to my boyfriend and I and yelled at us very aggressively asking “do I look familiar to you, did I help you guys?!” Very shocked and confused I just responded no, the other Starbucks employee was the one that ran our transaction. Shortly after we were refunded. I left the store feeling very uncomfortable and upset with how 3 of the employees treated us. I decided to go back in and tried to explain how bad the interaction made me feel to one of the rude employees. There still was was no apology, but instead was told she followed protocol and thanks bye. This store makes me feel like the employees assumed the worse of my intentions and lacked empathy for the situation. I hope the employees receive better training on what’s appropriate to say to customers. I shouldn’t have to leave a grocery store questioning why I’m constantly being treated poorly or seen as suspicious for no reason. Its unfortunate that a visit to the grocery store can genuinely ruin my day. Show people kindness even if you’re having a bad day. I hope someday they can reflect on how small things like this can...
Read moreThis is the only Meijer I have a problem with. I came in to buy a case of beer for a customer. It was an older guy eyeing me really hard. So i brought the 15 pack of beer to the self check out line, and the cashier came up and checked my ID and proceeded on her way. As i look at her walk off, I see the same older guy staring me down. He saw me pay for my things, and i started heading to the door. Then out of no where he starts screaming at the top of his lungs, saying, "Mam I need to see your receipt " I honestly didn't think he was talking to me because he just saw my whole entire transaction which was already irritating enough and i also thought when did Meijer start checking your receipt when you leave the store?. So i continued on walking and i hear him say it again. Now, at this point, everyone is looking at me like i just stole something. I looked back at him and said "whats going on? Did i take anything i wasn't supposed to?" He said I don't know, did you? I just continued on out the door. While he continued screaming. That was 1 of the most uncalled for and most embarrassing times I've had in my life. I don't know what it is, but everyone acts like they've never seen a black person before, whenever you walk in there. Which is very irritating. You don't feel welcome in there ever, and it shouldn't be like that. All I say is just be careful going to that store. It's a different kind of...
Read moreI've lived here since September of '18, and really want to like this store. Problem is, and I never thought I'd say this, the Walmart across the street is a better store.
This Meijer is ALWAYS, and I mean always out of stock of things that no grocery store should be out of. Today, no green leaf lettuce. Seriously? Also, if it's an item that's in one of their weekly sales, chances are it'll be out if stock as well. Peanut butter, K-cup coffees that are on sale, strawberry jam, Aunt Millie's bread, Pullups for kids. This is a management issue as well as a stocking issue, and somebody needs to get their shit together.
Today I walked out and drove across the road to Walmart and found everything I needed.
Disappointing, as Meijer was my go-to store back in Indianapolis before our move up here.
A small issue I suppose, but a lot of people prefer the smaller carts, and there are never any available inside the store.
I made a fuss several weeks back after a butcher lied, yes lied, and said they were out of the ground round that was on sale because the case was empty. A very nice assistant manager stepped in and helped out, and lo and behold, she brought me 3 pounds of the round that I wanted. It really shouldn't have to be this difficult. Maybe I'll give them another shot in a few months.
UPDATE: This is so typical. First day of this week's sale. Shelves are empty on sale items. Apparently...
