D&W Fresh Market — Local services in Grand Haven

I love the Pharmacy's staff, the Deli's chicken pot pies & the plain donuts at the bakery. But the plaid baseball cap wearing woman who works there is very rude and should be a little bit gentler with seniors when they ask questions about the donuts!🤨😠 I listened to her get very "snarky" when a senior citizen woman asked the differences between some donuts (Long johns that had labels missing) This "very busy workers" reply, by yelling with her back to the counter, was, " read the sign!" I thought, "Oh, Hell NO!!" And said, "Not nice! if she could read the sign she would have!!! I'd like to know also please! Because I need a few." The plaid-baseball hat lady mumbled something and threw a rag down and said "I'll be back in just a minute. I got to go help these people read." She came around the counter and said and pointed to the donut saying, "There!" and there wasn't a card there!! "Well, this one's Bavarian filled and this one's...oh darn it. " and then she explained which ones were which and then walked away from us not saying sorry or anything and I said to the other woman, "I think somebody's having a bad day!" But the sweet looking Granny said, Humm? I was thinking, more like Week, Month or Year and needs a vacation or maybe a timeout!" We laughed! Got our donuts and left!

On my last quick trip here, I picked up something special for my mom and since she loves cheesecake, I grab this 4 pack - Cookies and Cream Cheese Cake from the freezer section. It was a bit expensive! But it looked So good on the package. Filled to the top of the brown bowl with filling and covered with crushed cookies chunks! But this is what we got upon opening the box. A whole bunch of disappointment! I'm adding photos to let you see for yourselves. Don't purchase this!

Lastly, D&W is so fresh, you get fresh fruit flies with every purchase!!! 😠 But, I could really do without all of the Fruit Flies that permeated my home that came On the Expensive, Organic Grapes and Oranges that I purchased!! It was a horrible infestation of my Entire Home!! It happened not once. But twice! And Yes. I did wash the grapes. I did not wash the oranges right away though. 😒 Ugh! I will Never let it happen again!! I'm done buying fruit that has bugs and that goes bad so quickly! Walmart's fruits & veggies last way longer! I've never got bugs their produce yet! Plus,...

I usually only stop here for lunch. They have a nice selection of subs, panni and pizzas. They also have a soup and salad bar. Though most of this is over priced it is convenient when your in a hurry and want to get something different than the fast food places for lunch. The food is OK nothing special. The new upgrade to the lunch buffet and the building I will say is very impressive. Everything I expect for Grand Haven.

OK So now the issues. One issue is the work flow when ordering food, there is no clear line to stand in and the workers do not pay attention to who is next in whatever line is being formed. The last two times I stopped for Soup and a sandwich it took my entire lunch time just to get to the checkout. I mention this to the workers they smile and usually say nothing, but when they do they are gruff and talk with attitude. The very last time I was they was yesterday and I waited almost 15 minutes before I walked out because no one was behind the counter near the sandwiches. Employees walking in and out of the back room and looks like there are 7 or so working the deli. No one in the food court? I'm confused. There is one girl working the register. OK I ask her she laughed and ignored my question when I asked where all the staff was at. I doubt I will be back. Really disappointed with the staff and the service. I would not hold your breath if you expect good service...

I started going to D & W twice a week with work friends for their great HOT lunch choices & Salad Bar! And now I use the awsome Pharmacy and am always grateful for ALL THEIR HELP with my crazy questions about my meds! Etc, Etc, Etc!😉 The only downfall would have to be the Donut Counter and the Plaid baseball wearing hat lady behind it! Every time I have wanted help in identifying what's inside a donut, I waved my hand in the air and said, "Excuse me, may I have some help please?" Because I couldn't see over the tall counters. After about 5 min. She would come stomping around the opening. "Yes!" After I asked her and pointed the one out, she woyld ALWAYS SAY, "Theres a sign above each row mam!" "Thats just a silly name for the donut. Not whats in it. 🙂" "Ugh. " So, if you want to Make Her Day. Just Ask the lady in the Plaid Hat, that Works in the deli, "WHATS inside all these different Donuts? She'll love you for it! I'm sure!🤣😂😉 But you didn't hear...
