Woodhouse Spa - Grandview — Local services in Grandview Heights

I don’t usually leave bad reviews but I think this Woodhouse location is just not quite up to the standards of the brand, and for the price point I’d recommend you go elsewhere. I have been lucky enough to frequent Woodhouse spas regularly for the better part of a decade, and have never had anything but an amazing experience — until now. I should note that the physical plant is lovely and modern, and the front desk staff is great.

The first time I went to the Grandview location, I got a deep tissue massage with cupping. The massage was good, but the therapist forgot to remove a cup on my back, which I only found when I was getting up to put my robe on. This resulted in a pretty long-lasting bruise, but I chalked it up to an honest mistake.

The second time I went was this week. I asked for another deep tissue massage. It started fairly standardly on my neck, but I noticed the therapist kept slowly stopping and just… placing her hands on my neck with no added pressure. This kept going on for longer and longer periods — up to 45 seconds — until I would move a bit and she would jerk her hands and start again. This went on for about 20 minutes. I thought perhaps our styles just didn’t mesh, as I like an active, deep tissue massage.

She then moved to my arm where she started rubbing my hand. She again stopped massaging and now that I could see her, I opened my eyes — her head was bowed, her eyes were closed, and I could hear rhythmic breathing. I moved my hand and she jerked her head up and stood up to move to my other arm. Once there, she immediately externally rotated my arm and raked her knuckles firmly down the sensitive inner part of my upper arm, causing an electric sensation to run down my arm into my fingers. I asked to stop the session at this point, and she got up and left.

I then got dressed and went to the quiet room, expecting someone to come talk to me, but after about ten minutes of waiting I wandered into the front lobby and asked to speak with someone. The manager’s response was to offer me a complementary salt room or red light treatment, but intimated that she expected me to pay for the massage. I had to be firm, and only after she came back to me again to get more details of my experience (and presumably cross-reference with the therapist), did she finally tell me I could “get up and leave and not have to check out.” As I was waiting for a friend, I had to ask to stay — but it felt like she was kicking me out. She did then apologize and asked me to return and book with a different therapist who would “fit me better.”

I have bruises on my inner arm from this — something I’ve never had from a non-cupping massage— and had numbness in some of my fingers that lasted several hours. I like a good, firm deep tissue massage and love acupressure — but this wasn’t it. My two experiences here have left me feeling like the staff and management are just not quite experienced enough to carry the Woodhouse brand.

This is my second time visiting this location and what a surprise experience we had today! I decided to come because they sent me an email for a weekday discount which I thought was already a pretty good deal but then when we arrived they said we could try out some of their newer services complimentary. I had a Cryo facial which I’ve never tried before but really enjoyed. Some types of facials I’ve had before were not very relaxing and kind of hurt but this one didn’t hurt at all. Afterwards they let us try the salt room, vitality room, and the wellness wave. All 3 were good but that wellness wave, I wish I had that in my house. It was 30 minutes long but it provided a full body massage on top of my facial which was the icing on top of the cake! I highly recommend the wellness wave if you just go for a facial. *update 2/9 Wow! Just went back for a massage with Octavia today and it was AMAZING. She hit all the right spots and had amazing pressure. She hit spots I didnt even know were tight/sore. It was very relaxing. The staff were great again and I cant thank Hannah from Woodhouse enough, this experience was lovely

Was so excited to have a new massage spa around grandview. I booked a 50 min deep tissue massage. The spa experience/amenities were great, getting a glass of champagne before. The quiet room was very relaxing, the robes were comfy and the shower mist was nice! However- my deep massage was not deep at all. I dont want to know what a regular massage is like there if what I had was considered deep tissue especially for the price. I would say save the extra $30 and go to Paloma to get a real deep...
