Not very often I have to pull out a notepad to take notes on how terrible a restaurant is. But here is why I will never be going back to Brekkie Shack.
Walking into the restaurant for the first time there was no host greeting or directing to people waiting/reviewing the menu, the door dashers, and the people ready to order. Once my wife and I found out where we were supposed to go, we found old crusty menus that looked like they were used to wipe up a spill.
The line once facilitated moved quickly and we got up to the register to order for the first time. Staff did not ask if this was our first time to help guide us to how the operation worked. We placed our order for coffee, tea, baked goods, and some hot food and started to walk off before I asked them if they had a number or something to tell which table to bring the order out too and was then handed something.
We get to the table, and it was filthy, and no one was cleaning. We found napkins and cleaned a spot and waited 5 mins with no server or again greeting on what is going on. I had to walk back to the counter to ask if I needed to grab my coffee somewhere to which they said they would bring it out. Meanwhile we ate our baked goods cold and dry. Another 5 mins and our drinks are brought out and the server walks away. Never asked if we needed anything from utensils to water. Had she asked I would have asked that my sticky table be wiped down.
What I found kind of funny about the coffee and the business structure is you would think they are trying to be sustainable and ecofriendly but the cups they serve coffee in are single serve cups. Great for carry out but not for sit down. Never offered a refill on coffee.
Finally, the reason I gave this place 2 stars and not 1. The hot/fresh food that was served at least mine was great. I had a burrito and it tasted great though a little small for the price. My wife's dish was the vegetarian hash which was interesting but very dry and flavorless. imagine a mix of vegetables from brussels sprouts to chopped carrots fried in a pan with no oil or seasoning. Just dry hot veggies with...
Read moreWent here for the first time with my partner a couple months ago and sat at the counter. We waited for 15 mins while a server behind the counter wasn’t helping any other customers and refused to look at us. Not sure if she was just high or if it’s because my partner is black or what, but she was literally feet away from us and refused to look at us even though we were clearly looking at her to understand what we needed to do to get service. This was late on a weekday morning and there were less than 10 customers in there, so it wasn’t an issue of it being busy. After 15 mins of sitting in there, a solo white customer sat at the counter, and another server who must have been in the back the whole time came out quickly and told him that he had to order his food at the counter by the entrance. She didn’t let us know this, but we heard what she said and went to that counter and she took our order. The food came out quickly and was good for the most part, I ordered the breakfast of champions with a coffee, but be warned: you have to ask for cream for your coffee and even crazier, they give you your toast dry if you don’t ask for butter or whatever, and they apparently don’t ask you if you want it when you order. I’ve never encountered a breakfast place that gives you dry toast! The 2nd time I went, the service was better and the person we ordered our food from asked if i wanted cream for my coffee and butter for my toast, and the food and service was good enough to come back. However, I went back today at 7:30am. They open at 7, but all the doors were locked, and even though I tried the doors multiple times and the staff in the kitchen saw me repeatedly, no one came to the door to explain why they weren’t open even though they were clearly cooking food. There are so many better breakfast places in the area that don’t have high or racist servers and are open during their operating and have better staff that actually acknowledge and give great service to their customers. I won’t...
Read moreMy family and I had breakfast on a Saturday morning around 9am. We spent $70 on 2 adults meals, 2 children meals, & 2 cups of coffee. Silverware, condiments, & water are all self serve. The water glasses had finger prints and looked so dirty we didn’t drink out of them. The hot sauce was so dirty. See picture attached. The lady working the register asked me how to spell SOY for my milk of choice for my coffee, which they did not have. When I went up to the bar area to ask for a clean glass for water, no one who was working made eye contact or even glanced in my direction. We waited about 30 minutes for our food. The food was ok at best. I appreciate the idea of healthy & trendy breakfast, but the execution was awful. While we waited for our food, I believe it was the owner, was making a couple trips from her car into the restaurant. It appeared she was unloading mass amounts of flour and powdered sugar which she was taking from the back of her jeep and placing in oversized black duffel bags and transporting into the restaurant. Once she filled the last bag, we did not see her again. The restaurant was so busy we figured she would be helping the staff but we never saw her the rest of the time we were in.
The table next to us had their food boxed up to go. The person delivering the food asked them if they wanted a plate to put their boxed up food on and also said they wouldn’t be charged for dining in (they wanted to eat there which is why they were sitting at a table) and the table next to them, one of the girls didn’t receive her food. Her friends were done eating by the time she could flag down someone working and inquired about her food she was missing.
If you want to go to Brekkie Shack understand you are paying double the cost, will get subpar food and utensils and condiments...
