I have never thought I'd be writing a review on an Ethiopian restaurant, but I'm extremely happy I got a chance to try it. I noticed the restaurant right away so it really stood out on the street with the bright lime green paint really bringing some color to the neighborhood. When I first walked into the small establishment, I immediately after knew this food is about to be bomb because it smelled amazing inside.
The gentleman inside was really friendly. I asked him if I could have the Tofu Combo Platter ($12.99; came with red lentils, curried split peas, and curried vegetable medley)(tasted AMAZING and VERY filling), then I wanted to try the Sambusas ($6.99) which are 3 fried pastries filled with puy lentils, green onions, and jalapeno peppers (nice little appetizer, I ate them by themselves but I think they'd be really great with somekind of dip or sauce). I convinced my fiance to let me order her the Curried Vegetables Medley ($8.99). I was the only one inside, so thankfully I referenced other reviews I knew it was going to be a bit of a wait, which was perfectly fine.
The bag smelled amazing the whole drive home. The dishes came with a a LOT of bread I've never seen before, but it's meant to be used to pick up the food and eat it with your hands. The food was full of amazing flavors, and the tofu had a great kick to it, and the bread had a hint of sweetness to it but it complimented the best of the food. The potatoes were probably the most flavorful potatoes I've ever had.
This was a whole new experience for me and honestly a really cool way to taste the experience and flavor of a fascinating culture, and I'm really thankful I got to try this! I would love to have this again next time I'm...
Read moreThe food and drinks here are very delicious! If you want healthy, delicious vegan Ethiopian food, then this is the place! They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything at the restaurant is very fresh and made to order! The meals are fairly inexpensive, even if you have a good appetite, you will not spend more than $20 for one person and most meals are $8-$16 dollars. The gentleman working there today was working alone and he still got my sister, my 14 year old nephew, and myself our food quite quickly and it was delicious and the right temperature. He was also very kind and sweet to us and also all the other customers! The only thing that we personally did not like was the fact that my sister is very pregnant, and couldn't really fit in the seating booth because of her baby belly but the lovely gentleman made a compromise for us. I was hoping they had a small table that she could use in the more open space of the restaurant but this is a new restaurant and if we support them, they will have the money to expand! Please go try them out and support them. And extra (vegan) brownie points! The restaurant is eco-friendly. So 5/5 stars, I will be back for more food! In the pictures, I had the mushroom combo for two(sub their veggie medley for their beet medley), the kale stew, a full serving of beet stew, and sambusas(cooked in an air dryer so they're not greasy or super unhealthy). I highly recommend...
Read moreNot only is the food amazing, the customer service is outstanding! I ordered via a delivery service and I ordered late -- about 15 minutes before they stop accepting orders. A bit later someone called me from the restaurant and told me one of the dishes I ordered was gone for the night. He offered to substitute it with lentils, which I was more than happy with, but I asked if he could substitute it with mushroom stew. He obliged but had already added the lentils, so he was kind enough to include what basically amounted to a free side of mushroom stew. Now this is already enough for 5 stars from me but the fact that the food was still delicious and warm after it was delivered 15-20 minutes later is great. I ordered the platter for two and ate the entire thing PLUS the mushroom stew because it was THAT GOOD. Seriously, if you're vegan, vegetarian, or an omnivore, give this place a try. Can't wait to eat there in person when I feel safe. Personal thanks to whoever provided service to me tonight at Nile Vegan!
My only possible complaint/suggestion would be to have the injera on the side for delivery because sometimes it can become soggy, but to me, that makes it even tastier (and all of that extra packaging would be extremely wasteful).
I would post pictures but it was too delicious for me to even consider wasting time...
