I have recently moved out of bears village (use to be called University Apartments). Here are all my honest thoughts on the apartments.
Things to keep in mind (NOT apartments fault) Yes, trains do get loud very often like once an hour or every other hour Your neighbors are "a pick of the draw". I have lived there for 2 years and I have had both good and bad neighbors ranging from quiet, polite, friendly to rude, cluttering, uncaring (Ex: many trash bags outside their door or leaving their pet excrement on the lawn or letting little kids run wild unsupervised etc) I have personally had one instance of people stealing my laundry out of the public dryer when its done, so make sure to set a timer to remind yourself to pick-up the laundry (laundry is not free but cheaper and cleaner than other businesses) What I DID like Apartments inside were relatively quite from neighbors (minus the train) The internet is good and reliable. They do include TV with their utility fee but I never used that so I cant say how good it is You can pay online either ACH bank deposit (FREE) or credit card (small fee). This saved me the trouble of making sure they got my rent every month Their maintenance is good, the two times I have contacted them there have been no issues They did RETURN MOST OF MY DEPOSIT (I did make sure the apartment was as clean as possible). For me they only took out a "re-key" fee but that is stated clearly on your contract What I did NOT like It is EXPENSIVE, regardless if you do a 1 bed or 2 bed rent. You can get cheaper of both or if you are willing to spend a tad bit more from the 2 bed rent you could make house payments Their main office location is about 30 mins away by car. So if you need to pick up or drop off anything it is a bit of a hassle. PARKING, there is very limited room to park. MAKE SURE you take the time to understand where you CAN AND CAN NOT park. I HAVE gotten towed before (only once in a LEGAL area), but that was enough for me to make sure I NEVER do that again Their washing machines readers have EATEN my loading cards before, so make sure you put in only small amounts possible (I think the smallest amount you can load...

Can’t hear anything. Absolutely nothing gets through the walls unless someone upstairs is jumping off the top of a dresser or something and landing on the ground. They seem to be trying to fix up the complex. Some residents are absolutely awesome and I am so sad to be leaving the area because of that. Lots of grass areas to run and play for kids. Play ground . Cheap.
Cons and the reasons for the lower rating: machines in laundry never work. No service down there to connect your phone anyways so you can not use them half the time. Flooding. A ton or water flooding through the complex all the way up ti the front door. Super poor drainage through the complex. If it’s raining, don’t do laundry, the drain area down the stairs to the complex is constantly flooded. Bugs. Horrible horrible bugs . The standing water makes the entire complex a breeding ground for mesquitos. Flys, lots of tiny black flys that come up from the bathtub drain if you are on the ground floor. probably because of you are on the ground floor your bathtub will constantly back up and not drain and everything any one puts in their drain in the apartment above you get backed up into your tub as well (gross). NO HOT WATER! If you don’t want to have to boil water every time you need hot water, don’t live here. Constantly having to contact maintenance about having no hot water for days but no one can seem to find the problem. Every resident complains of this. Some of the tell tenants…. They throw trash off the balcony , let their dogs pee on your door, write with chalk all over the outside of your apartment and door, throw stuff at your windows, steal items from your porch, and blast loud music at any time between 9pm and 4am. If there is an emergency ( let’s say someone standing outside your window threatening to shoot someone like we had), the police won’t respond very quickly and won’t do anything unless “ you have proof or video”. Dog poop every where. In front of your door, on the balcony area, on the sidewalks, on benches, thrown at windows, all over the kids park, etc. trash everywhere. Some residents use the exterior of their apartment as a dumpster. Communication after move in goes down...
Read moreI DO NOT RECOMMEND this place if I could give zero stars I would!! First thing they switch property managers like crazy! The latest property manager is Four Star Realty. If you are willing to be treated like you’re in jail, I highly recommend not coming here! Secondly, their rent prices are outrageous, it’s not worth for how much they charge!!They have so many rules that they make up as they go that it’s not even funny!! They also have way too many “inspections” & they never fix a thing. Unless your job is okay with you missing a lot of work over It, it’s honestly not worth it! Another thing is they rarely have hot water during the winter months so that is a big issue! The heaters are on during the summer months. So you can only imagine how hot it actually is. Also, if you want your car or other personal property stole from here, I would suggest looking else where far away from this place! They do not care. If you have children be careful with them because they get yelled at by other residents for trying to have fun. It is ridiculous! Some children are very destructive and most of the children do not live around here. If you report anything nothing happens. People are constantly leaving here. Overall, this has to be the worst experience living somewhere ever!!!! I wish I wouldn’t have lived here for as long as I did! I am so relieved to gone now!! What ever you choose, think long & hard if you want to deal with this place. Guarantee you’ll have problem...
