One step beyond Nongshim Shin-ramyun Korean ramen packets..., noodles were over cooked, broth was watery and, meat was scarce. Low quality dime sized shrimp flavor overpowered the medium shrimp and rest of the seafood in the ramen version. Wife and kiddo didn't finish nor take anything home. Bulgogi beef bowl was good but portions were weird: too many onions not cut small enough to eat with the cuts of beef that were too sparse for a plated meal, cooked carrots in the marinade with a side of carrots?, a spicy mayo ( 🧐 but not seasoned like a dressing) topped cabbage hash and a scoop of soy glazed rice. While the flavor was in the right ball park the beef was over marinated and wasn't grilled... FYI the literal Korean translation ( not Japanese btw) of Bulgogi means fire meat. It's a collage of some Japanese art and a pub crawl of American beer surrounding the entire seating area. So the vibe isn't a Japanese restaurant, nor the food other than a few rolls of sushi and sake... it's a Kitschy college place. Staff was nice and were helpful.
I have been here in the past and after more than five years of not coming back, My kid wanted to give it a try so... A 14 yo said that the packets made at home were the same and tasted better. Last time I was here I tried the udon and it was bland with low quality noodles. No shio ramen base, no tonkotsu broth, not even soy based broth. They don't use bone broth as a starter. No scallion or sesame as toppings. The egg wasn't marinated or if not nor was is soft boiled, hard boiled plain not only brings sulfur smell to the palate but it can't absorb any flavor in the time it's meant to be consumed. SO MUCH ROOM...
Read moreA cool sushi place in all old house! I recommend sitting against the front window to watch the cars, dog walkers, students, etc. You get the people watching experience of a patio, while staying warm in winter and cool in summer. I have only ever ordered the 3 Roll Combo for $9.99. This is an exceptional value and the sushi is good. The 3 Roll Combo has about 20 different rolls to choose from and each roll has six pieces. 18 pieces of sushi for $9.99 is a great price. I heard many other people rave about their ramen.
Daruma also has a decent beer selection ranging from local to Japanese beers. They do have a good sized patio with table and umbrellas. Although it's in Greeley, street parking can be a little difficult, but they have a small parking lot on the back side (East side) of the building.
You should definitely work this place into your rotation! As a warning, I've experienced about a 35 minute to get my sushi during peak hours. However, the employee taking your order at the register always gives a warning about the wait time. This is much appreciated by customers. During known busy times, we often call ahead...
Read moreWe're from South Florida,, and we travel a lot for business. We visited a friend in this area, and we decided to order out for delivery, and we found Daruma Japanese Restaurant. They deliver, although Doordarsh indicated they were close. I called them directly, and was confirmed open, the young lady that took my call, "unpaused" the delivery in doordash. I placed our order by phone, and she was courteous, helpful and patiently answered all my questions. We ordered 2 bulgogi, chicken fried rice, and 2 orders of fried potstickers (paid $53). They were efficient, it was ready in 30 minutes. We picked it up instead of delivery. The servings was generous, presentation was good. Although, the flavor is nothing to rave about. I gave it a 4 because they have impeccable customer service, they're fast in preparing the food, the presentation was good, and they have...
