My husband and I were on a road trip lake michigan for the sand sculpting competition and decided to bring along some silver and some Semi precious, loose gemstones, as well as a 9 k seed pearl mourning gold ring a couple of stick pins, one that we didn't know what it was because of the marking was damaged and and the other gold. We weren't sure about the gemstones, and it was okay with us if they didn't sell, but we were fed a whole bunch of wise and uneducated information ( more on that..). When I asked if they buy the rings for the piece ( pawn) or the gold (scrap), she says they buy it for the gold with us becauseit is easier, but then they'll just decide later to resell it but it's not to to her. Okay, ick feeling with the ring but then more red flags.
The one that in particular stood out was alexandrite, I asked the lady ("specialist" as she was called") what she considered a precious stone, and she mentioned that one I exclaimed that that was a fairly recent stone that was discovered so that seemed a little funny to me it was more valuable than the emerald that I had on the counter or the large quad A Pear Amythest or the watermelon tourmalines. Now me, knowing that they were discovered in the ural mountains in 1830, fairly new and new deposits all over the world.. and lab ones ect...But they argue that everybody has known about them since is the beginning of time.... Now this contradicts everything in mineralogy books. Okay, then I dismissed their Gem lady and said, okay, I want to talk to you instead and decide to just sell the silver and one stick pin. The woman weighed the items but never showed us a wait, never wrote down a weight of the items she never told us what the going price per gold or silver, per purity of the 10k was nothing. She then tabulated it on a old calculator did the math wrong a few times. This place is a joke, a scam and I doubt their g.I a certified in anything. As a person that does travel a lot around the country on road trips, and a person that does alot of personal acquisition for my own fun I shouldn't be treated with lies, and if I knew nothing I shouldn't be lied to either. AVOID. Find a place like gold guys. They will weigh the item in front of you. Give you what the price is Per the market and give you education. Don't trust people that don't give you the weight but being as it was scrap silver. And I just wanted to have a little fun, and that was nothing in my collection. It was a fun learning on how some people decide to do...
Read moreTo start, my fiance and I originally bought our rings at Kay, brand new, but neither of us were thrilled with them. Having not had the "This is the ring for me" moment, and feeling rushed to buy the rings (we were not spending several thousand dollars, which probably meant the guy knew he was not getting a big commission), we thought we would try American Antiques and Jewelry. AMAZING PLACE. AMAZING PEOPLE. AMAZING COLLECTION of antique jewelry.
As soon as we walked into this family store, we were greeted with open arms. Literally, I bet they would have given us a hug if we would have asked. But we were looking for a one of a kind antique ring at a great price and this place had HUNDREDS of them. They all ranged in value, from a hundred bucks to a few thousand. All their rings are also in great condition. And they are antiques, so all of them are one of a kind. My fiance looked in the first case and literally, no joke, had the THAT IS IT. She tried on a few more rings, and as she is a little picky (she calls it "particular"), we decided to sleep on the purchase. Also, I found my ring there - basically the same one I got at Kay (a simple white gold band) - and the young man who helped us was just happy to help me, as they do not work on commission there.
We put three rings on hold and came back the next day to buy the first one my fiance tried on. We followed up the purchase with visiting Kay and returning all the rings that we bought there.
Please. Visit this place. They are amazing. Thank you so much American Antiques & Jewelry.

Read moreI went there on 8/23/18 with some jewelry to sell. I got the quote and decided to buy a ring with just a little extra charge to me. A woman was across the room with some signed footballs to sell. My husband was just wondering around waiting for me. The woman was on her phone with her husband. She saw my husband and said to him that her husband said not to sell the footballs for the price quoted by AA&J & what did he think. My husband told her he would talk to her outside. We did not know this woman and didn't care whether she sold her stuff or not. She took her footballs & went to her car. My husband went out also to talk to her and did tell her that he thought she could get more but it was up to her. He did NOT offer to buy them from her. Well the owner, Mark, and another guy went outside also. When they came back in, they were very irritated and the owner headed toward me. I was just completing my purchase and he told the salesgirl that the deal was off. He came over to me yelling and told me to take my stuff and get out. I told him I had no idea what was going on and that I was buying a ring from him. He said NO you aren't. Get out!! I don't really know why he was so mad. The lady's husband already told her not to sell the footballs there. All we can think of is that they thought they could get some valuable sports memorabilia for little to nothing and it didn't work out. Why that was our fault, I don't know. Certainly not professional for a business owner. Will never go back...
