Johnson Fitness & Wellness Store — Local services in Green Brook Township

This may be a tad bit long but wanted to share my experience as I believe Johnson Fitness and Jeremy deserve a review. I am not one to venture into brick and mortar stores often anymore as the current world circumstances lead me to shop more online. I have been in the market for a new piece of gym equipment for strength building and being a 40+ individual, not focused on pure strength building but overall strength and core. I have researched many machines and decided to see if any stores had it in stock. My focus was a functional trainer or similar style machine.

I decided to call a few places and Jeremy answered here and right away his interpersonal/soft skills shined. While Johnson is not the closest to me and out of the way from where I was going in the evening, my wife and I ended up going to Johnsen fitness because of my interaction with Jeremy (to note the #1 item I was looking at [a bodycraft product] was not in stock).

When we arrived at the store, our experience was fantastic. Jeremy greeted us and right away showed he was there to help even though I reminded him on who I was since I called earlier and the product I was looing for. He answered many questions I had and showed me similar products going through the pros and cons of each.

There was also an Inspire Fitness product I was eyeing which was in the showroom and he took the time again to answer my questions and walk me through all the features. You can tell he is a genuine individual and did not at any point feel like a "salesman" but someone who took into account our needs and offered up his knowledge and recommendations. His personality truly shines and Johnson is lucky to have an individual working there who truly cares about the customer and also the image of the store.

In the end, my wife and I ended up purchasing the Inspire product and we couldn't have had a better experience coming into a store. We have yet to get the product (Jeremy was upfront on the wait time) so this review is solely on the experience with Johnson Fitness. A third party handles install and delivery so that may be a different review :).

Every time that we buy any gym equipment, we always use Johnson Fitness. And we always will.

I have always loved to exercise. About 15 years ago, though, I damaged my back, and became permanently disabled. So my exercise routine changed from lifting free weights and using the rowing machine, to long periods on an elliptical machine (because I can’t walk that well), and sessions to strengthen my trunk and legs.

Because I don’t drive, however, going to a gym became difficult for me. Moreover, because the only cardio machine that I can use is an elliptical machine, and have to do so for long periods, it became clear that we needed equipment at home.

Johnson Fitness was the easy choice for where to buy it. Their prices and customer service were substantially better than any competitor. In particular, because of my injury, I needed a machine with many positions so that it could accommodate my back. Johnson Fitness was the only store that came remotely close to our budget. Indeed, for the machine on which I had my heart set, they had the best price by over $700.

Also, Johnson’s service was fantastic. Scott McLaughlin, manager of the Green Brook store, took care of everything for us. He ensured that we found the right equipment, responded promptly to every phone call and email, knew everything about all the machines and options, and, most importantly, always beat every competitor’s price.

We are just a family. We are not a massive corporate account, a school, or a health club. Yet Scott treated us—always— as if we were the most important customers in the world. This made us feel heard, validated, and sure that we had found the right store for us.

We had a great experience learning about the exercise equipment that we were interested in without feeling pressured. Even though the store was closing for the day, Jefferson had no problem with staying as long as needed to answer our questions. It was a pleasure to work with Jefferson. He was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable without being phony at all. He not only made himself available before and during the sale, but he also extended himself to be available to help us if we needed assistance after the sale.
