I was so excited to have a Lidl close to me. This excitement was short lived. I have been in this store on different days and times. Every time they might have one register open. Most days they have self checkout. Last Week My wife and I went in there to buy a buggy full of groceries. There were NO CASHIERS OPEN! Only self checkout. We promptly started to take things out of our buggy and put them back where they belonged. We also only got a few more necessary items. It is impossible to buy a lot of groceries and do self checkout. There is simply not enough room on the checkout. I looked around and there were some irate people doing self checkout. Lidl needs to staff their stores properly...Why? Because They missed out on sales from us this week because of it. We gave our business to other grocery stores. We are not the only people to do this. One more thing...They were paying an older gentleman to walk around with a "Security" vest on. So the store can afford to pay a Security person, but not cashiers? This to me is backwards thinking. I will drive past this store in the future and spend my money at a store that I don't have to give them free labor. I don't work for Lidl, but apparently cashiers don't either.
UPDATE: Decided to try this store again, the same one we visited before on Pisgah Church Road Greensboro. This was a Saturday afternoon. Prime shopping time for a grocery store. We needed a buggy full of groceries and because we saw a real cashier working, my wife and I proceeded to fill the buggy up. When ready to check out, there were no registers open. An employee asked if we were paying cash or card. We said card. She told us to use self checkout for card. Really?!! With all the groceries we had, it would be a nightmare trying to scan them and then place them on the postage stamp sized platform next to the self checkout. We almost left the buggy and walked out. But we did the self checkout anyway and fought the avalanche of groceries as we scanned them. We were not the only customers trying to get checked out and MAD that no one was available. I can assure you Lidl has now lost our business for good because of their lack of cashiers. What a great business model...offer great products at great prices and then make it extremely hard for people to buy them. If Lidl wants to only sell small amounts of groceries to customers, then just open a convenient store instead of pretending to be a...
Read moreI go 3 – 4 times a month and have always found the store clean and well stocked. The staff count will be low and I have found it easier just to use the self checkout stations then the limited attended checkout lines. Like Aldi, the selection will be minimal with probably 85% - 90% of their inventory store label items. However, I have found their items to be as good if not better in some instances than name brand items or the store brands of larger grocers.
The benefit is if you are willing to separate your shopping out between a couple of stores you can reduce your grocery spend significantly. For my household of 6 that has translated into about 30% - 40% savings overall. I still have to make a trip to HT, Spouts, or Target to get a few items but overall I have been able to get the bulk of what I need at Lidl (probably about 70% to 75% overall).
Highly recommend...
Read moreLidl is a great discount grocery store. They have excellent prices on produce, in season items yields the best quality. Their cheeses are good and they have a decent selection of charcuterie meats and pre-sliced lunch meats. If you're a regular dairy milk drinker try the Lidl brand milk. It tastes better than store brand milk at other stores. If you have time, the center aisles have seasonal, tools, cookware, housewares, clothing and decor items. Many of these items are as good as higher priced brand names. It is worth going to Lodi when you have time and patience to get used to the items and the checkout process. You need reusable bags, boxes, etc or you can purchase paper or reusable bags at the register. You bag your...
