I love Aldi, but today I was acosted by the manager named Eric. I know I looked rough after hiking 3.3 miles and I was in a bit of a hurry since I had my dog waiting out in my vehicle (Daisy loves to hike!) It's supposed to get up in the high 80's today so I didn't want her out there long, just making a quick stop for dinner.
I was minding my own business while shopping when I got to an isle with a pallet jack and 3 palets on the floor right in a row. There was no string or tape across the isle to indicate that I shouldn't go down it. I glanced at the stock on the shelves as I went by and saw, what I thought, was a lazy susan... it turned out just to be a round tray. Some guy came along and grabbed my cart and started walking away with it while saying he was going to move it to the end of the isle. I told him, "No, my purse is in there, (I had just gotten $100 out of Walmart.) So he brought it back and said my cart was in the way. I was on my way since the tray wasn't a lazy susan and as I left the isle, I heard the stock woman say to him, "I'm proud of you." I assume it was in response to his hastling me. I went back and said, "Excuse me, is my shopping here bothering you?" Can't remember what happened then, but went to the freezer section and and a couple of girls were stocking the middle freezers and I asked them, "I'd like to talk to the manager please." They informed me that he was stocking in the next isle. I said, "Well that's no help since he was the one I was going to complain about... walking off with my cart with my purse in it."
Then I decided to take a picture of the isle incase I decide to follow this up latter. I walked back around to the far end (without the pallet jack in the way of my pic.) I didn't say a word to anyone. I was just going to take the pic and leave since I was now next to the registers... but I did see new ice cream flavors in the freezers... thought I'd go visit them first.
But Eric came up to me and said, "Can I help you?" as I was taking the pic....I was just going to walk away, but since he asked, I said, "I'd like the name and phone number of your manager." He said, "I am the manager." I said, "I know, but you still have a manager, probably a regional manager." He just said, "How can I help you." He just kept saying it over and over, very passive aggressively.
I have NEVER, in my 60+ years of life, had someone refuse to give me the name & number of their boss! I have an A.A. degree in Retail Mgmt and a Bachelors degree in Computer Sci./Business. If I feel like I need to ask for someone's contact info., I don't usually call the manager because the employee will usually call the manager to get to them first and tell them what happened to beat the customer from giving them their point of view. So my purpose is accomplished without any more bother from me.
I walked over to the ice cream to check it out and Eric followed me, he kept saying, "How can I help you?" I finally said, "get away from me." He told me I was escalating things." I told him he was escalating things by following me over to the ice cream. I had to say, "Leave me alone" three or four times before he would leave me alone....
Read moreAlright, gather 'round, folks! Let me tell you about my recent trip to Aldi in Greer, South Carolina. Now, if you don’t know Aldi, you might be missing out on one of America’s hidden treasures! It’s like finding a dollar bill in your winter coat—unexpected and delightful!
First off, let’s talk about the parking lot. You pull in, and it’s like a scene from a classic American car commercial. You’ve got trucks, sedans, and even a couple of those fancy electric cars. I half expected to see a bald eagle soaring overhead, singing “God Bless the USA” as I parked my trusty pick-up.
Once inside, it’s a cornucopia of savings! I strolled through the aisles like a kid in a candy store, except instead of candy, it was bags of chips and frozen pizzas. And let me tell you, the prices are so low, I thought I accidentally walked into a Black Friday sale! I found my favorite snack, the cheese puffs, and they were practically giving them away. I felt like I was robbing the place!
Now, let’s chat about the staff. These folks work harder than a beaver building a dam! They’re friendly, helpful, and always ready with a smile. I asked one employee where the ketchup was, and I swear he pointed me right to it faster than a NASCAR pit crew!
And can we take a moment to appreciate the unique products? They’ve got everything from organic kale to some mysterious frozen meals that might be from another planet. I picked up a box of “Aldi’s Own” something-or-other, and I’m pretty sure it’s the best thing since sliced bread... which they also sell, by the way!
As I made my way to the checkout, I couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride for our great nation. Here I was, supporting a grocery store that brings high-quality food at rock-bottom prices. It’s a beautiful thing, folks.
So if you find yourself in Greer, South Carolina, do yourself a favor and swing by Aldi. You’ll leave with a cart full of goodies and a smile on your face. Remember, folks, in...
Read moreI am actually appalled by how I was treated in Aldi this afternoon. I was on the phone starting to check out my items in the self checkout when the cashier informed me that I’d have to check out with her instead because I had more than 20 items, I rolled my eyes because I had already started to scan my items in the self checkout but I just grabbed my things and moved over toward her belt. She proceeded to say “if you weren’t stealing it shouldn’t be a problem” EXCUSEEEEEE ME?! It was a problem because I was already checking my items out and I had to stop what I was doing and grab my things to move to her belt. I’ve never been so offended in my life. I had a long day at work and was already exhausted and to be treated that way in my “safe store” actually blew my mind!! I asked her to have someone else come to the front. They allowed her to proceed with my transaction and then brought her to the back. I had plenty of money to afford my items, I cannot believe I was talked to/treated that way. I don’t ever feel comfortable spending my money with Aldi again and to be quite honest I’m angry at myself for giving them my money in that moment! I rolled my eyes. I did, I take full accountability for that. I work in customer service, it happens all the time but for someone child to full blown accuse me of stealing, as a customer who spends so much of my hard earned money in an establishment is so far out of line I can’t even comprehend. If she wasn’t fired for something like that, Aldi shame on you. I’m prepared to take this to social media if need be. I am...
