Planet Fitness — Local services in Guilford Township

I have been going to Planet Fitness for three years across the US and just recently moved to Chambersburg, PA where I have been going for six months. I go in, I do my workout and mind my own business. I was approached four days ago and told that I couldn't have my bag on the floor, the same bag I have been using in this gym and for the past three years. I asked where I was to put it, and was told in the locker room. I told the girl that I have all my gym equipment and can't carry it all loosely. I am a 64 year-old woman trying to stay in shape, minding my own business. I told her I couldn't put it in the locker room and carry all my stuff to use and then have all my stuff loose on the floor. I have noticed multiple other people with bags, four that night, some much larger than mine, and nothing being said. And these people were in their 20s. The next time I came in the gym, she approached me again and said put your gym bag in the locker room and again I told her I need these things and I can't carry them loosely. I asked to speak with the manager. I asked her for solutions. I asked if the bag was the problem. I said help me understand how I can have this stuff with me to work out if a bag is not allowed. What exactly do we need to do? I asked to speak to the manager again. She came back on the phone with her manager, but would not allow me to speak to that manager. Instead, she told me to leave the gym and called the police when I said I was staying and finishing my workout. The police came and escorted me out and I can no longer go to that gym. What's in my gym bag? I have my workout gloves, I have straps to help me hold the weights. I have wristbands for those times when my wrists hurt. I have a strap that goes around my arm when I'm having problems with my elbow, I have the foot wedges for when I work on squats, because the plates hurt my feet. I have the pad to go on the bar. I have a fitness log to write stuff down, so I know exactly what I've been doing each time. I have ankle straps for cable work, plus my water bottle. The only thing this gym provides out of what I have, is the pad for the bar. I understand policies, but I also understand enforcing it for every person, and in this case, this was blatant age discrimination. I needed the bag to help me manage my things and there was no thought or consideration for any accommodation for someone who needs it, and to kick me out of the gym because of it, is wrong. There was no explanation of why a bag wasn't allowed, nor was there a willingness to look for solutions or to try to understand why I needed my bag. She brought a piece of paper that I guess had it listed a bag wasn't allowed, however, she never showed me the paper, and I couldn't have read it without my glasses with me. The girl just said I was giving her an attitude. Of course, this is the same girl on the previous night that was walking around with her other friend who was also supposed to be working, flirting and giggling with all the guys in the gym instead of working, while equipment couldn't be cleaned because the towel dispenser was empty, and yet we feel the need to harass a 64 year-old woman who...

I've recently returned to Planet Fitness after a few years away, and overall I’m glad to be back. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming. However, I’ve been really disappointed by the rotary torso machine available at this location.

The current machine is very uncomfortable and not functional for people like me with a shorter reach. It's difficult to get proper form, and instead of feeling it in my core, I end up straining my arms—especially frustrating since core workouts are what I’m trying to focus on.

I visit other Planet Fitness locations when I travel or have to plan my day around convenience, and many of them have a much better version of this machine. The one where you kneel and grab the handles in front of you. That style works much better for proper engagement and allows for a more effective workout. I really wish we could get one of those here.

To make it more frustrating, this location only has one rotary torso machine total. So not only is it uncomfortable and ineffective, I’m also stuck waiting if someone else is using it. I noticed the gym got new equipment this year, which is great, but unfortunately no upgrade or additional rotary machine.

I’m hoping this feedback reaches someone who can take it into serious consideration. The kneeling rotary torso machine would be a big improvement, especially for members with different body types. More core machine options would be greatly appreciated, and would show that the gym is continuing to evolve with member needs in mind.

Worst customer 'service' ever. I called in this evening to cancel my several year long black card membership. I only go in to tan from time to time. Talked to Brandy. She took my name and date of birth and address. Then she said I had to come in person to cancel. I said I am unable to wear a mask to come in person and they cancelled my friends membership via phone a few months ago. She said when we were closed we cancelled by phone; now you have to come in. We require you come in person or send a certified letter (which requires I go into another public place). I said his was cancelled right after you reopened. I asked to talk to her superior, she stated she was Regional Manager insinuating there is no one superior to her position. I said well I'm not coming in so I guess I'll dispute the charge since you won't cancel my membership. She then sharply stated she would cancel it but i would still pay for this month since I didn't cancel by the 10th. I said you can look and see that I have been in once since March. She then said, in a very belittling way, have a GREAT day and hung up on me. I plan to take legal action under the ADA (I have cancer and have been told by my hematology oncologist that wearing a mask will weaken my immune system) and will contact an (aggressive) attorney this week.
