Essex Street Train Station on the Pascack Valley Line, is the more frequently used of the two stations in Hackensack. Its advantages are that it has a larger, more immediate parking lot and numerous connections to local bus routes right by it. There are some drawbacks though. Being on a unidirectional track, counter directional to the rush (that is, going toward Spring Valley in the morning, and towards Hoboken after 5 pm) is an absolute pain. It appears to be well kept and nicely lit in the evening. You also have access to nearby buses that can take you to some of the surrounding cities like Passaic, Clifton & Paterson.
