Important Notice Regarding Camp Near Chicago
We are deeply concerned about the current situation at the camp near Chicago, where our daughter is presently staying. The camp is managed by an individual named Kevin, who has demonstrated inappropriate and potentially harmful behavior toward both staff and children.
There have been multiple reports of Kevin bullying the children and providing misleading or false information to parents about what is actually happening at the camp. Furthermore, he is pressuring staff members to remain at the camp for an additional two weeks after the scheduled end of their contracts, solely to assist with cleanup despite the fact that no kitchen or admin staff will be present during this period to provide meals for them.
More troubling, Kevin has reportedly segregated children based on perceived socioeconomic status labeling them as "rich" or "poor" and then forcing them to eat each other’s meals as a form of "social experiment." This behavior has been particularly distressing for children from underprivileged backgrounds, some of whom are in or have experienced the social care system. Such actions are inappropriate and psychologically damaging.
There have also been incidents involving erratic behavior from Kevin, including yelling at children and referencing his heart monitor readings during outbursts raising further concerns about his emotional stability and suitability for this role.
Staff who have attempted to raise these issues have been met with coercive tactics. As a so-called "reward" for speaking up, they have been told they can leave a week earlier than agreed. However, they are simultaneously threatened with being removed from the country within 3–5 days if they choose to leave, effectively using immigration status as a means of blackmail and control. This is both unethical and possibly unlawful.
We urge all parents and guardians to exercise caution and to seek clarification from the camp’s overseeing agency. It is imperative that the safety and well-being of both children and staff are prioritized and that immediate investigations are conducted into these...
Read moreMy experience with IENA has been excellent. What impressed me the most was the way they supported me when I had an issue with my camp. The IENA team took the time to listen, understand my situation, and advocate on my behalf until it was fully resolved.
Their professionalism, patience, and genuine care made me feel backed up at every step. I am truly grateful for the service I received, and I highly recommend IENA to anyone considering a cultural exchange or camp program. Choosing them as my agency was the best decision — I’m very happy with the experience and the support...
Read moreThe worst sponsor you can have. There are other better possibilities. No guarantee is given to those who apply through this means. The camps are the ones who decide for them, they don't investigate, much less take into account your situation or what really happened. As long as you go and nothing happens on your trip or camp, they supposedly serve because they are not supposed to do anything, however, when it comes to helping, they are useless. In my years of traveling and applying to programs, this space has...
