Wooten Clayworks is my favorite place and my home away from home. I highly recommend the studio to those who want to experience working with clay for the first time. There are also a wide variety of classes to take for those interested in learning the art of clay. The gallery of master potters works is exciting to view and purchase pieces from. The main studio is bright, airy and there is ample space to work on the electric wheel and for handbuilding. I've been working with clay since the 70's and this studio is the best that I have worked in. I became a member in May 2023 and plan to remain one for a long time. Dallas, Taylor and Sara are open to questions and very supportive in everyone's work. I've been working on my own while other classes have been taking place and the level of instruction matches and exceeds that of an academic setting. When you are surrounded by potters who excel in their art, it encourages you to strive for improvement. The visiting potters that hold classes are amazing. I learn so much from the classes and interacting with those who create amazing works of art. Working on the pottery wheel is a meditative experience for me. In order to center clay you need to center your own feelings and block out the world. Since I've joined as a member my mind is calmer and I have created interesting mugs, bowls and vases. I highly recommend Wooten Clayworks for the new student and well as for those...
Read moreUpon arrival you ll receive an apron which is already used and dirty, then you choose your wheel, it was 9 people in my class that Monday evening and the teacher - nice guy by spending time with each person individually because we clearly didn't have much talent prolonged 2h class to almost 3. Now the class is $65 and you don't get to take home your creations, I had to wait 6 weeks to receive mine upon numerous phone calls/email. So there is no immediate 'reward' for attempt you made. On the end of the class you need to wash entire station out of clay, which I found uncomfortable because at this point I'm investing in something I would never display and trying to get away from Monday night chores at home only to clean someone else's. On top of it, there is only two sinks so it took us additional 30 mins to clean. Also little tip cut your long nails before going there, otherwise very difficult to...
Read moreI attended a team event for work, it didn't live up to the experience we had hoped for. Most of the time allotted was spent crowded by the sinks fighting for space to clean our tools (which, for the cost and how limited of a time we had, they really should've offered to let us leave the tools for them to clean later). The activities (we did the wheel and hand throwing) was extremely rushed and although the instructor was a talented potter, she was not the best teacher. We all really felt lost and rushed. It's been a while now since our "class" and we still haven't received our items despite following up several times. They are quite unresponsive (even during the initial scheduling and ironing out details). For the cost you pay, it didn't live up to the experience that was promised. I wouldn't recommend a team activity here, but might be fun for a...
