I recently stopped into this local gem of a supermarket in Haddam, CT, and was beyond impressed. The store is spotless, the layout is easy to navigate, and everything about the experience felt personal and welcoming.

Fresh Produce & Local Finds: From crisp apples to farm-fresh greens, everything looked and tasted like it had just been picked. I also loved seeing local New England products on the shelves—it gave the store a hometown charm you don’t get everywhere.

Customer Service That Shines: The staff here genuinely cares. I was greeted with smiles, offered help without asking, and even got a great recommendation on a new bread I’d never tried before.

Clean, Organized, and Easy to Shop: Checkout was quick, aisles were neatly stocked, and the parking was convenient. It’s clear they value their customers and community.

Whether you’re just picking up a few things or doing a full weekly shop, this market has everything you need—with heart.

I have to question the validity of these reviews after witnessing some disturbing things at River Valley Provision Store at 95 Bridge Rd, Haddam, CT 06438. As I was getting out of my car a young woman was calling to a Keith (I remember the name because she called repeatedly) who was outside having a cigarette and drinking alcohol. I just thought it was her boyfriend or husband. I entered the store, which is poorly lit, and started through looking at very small selections of fresh items. I made my way back to the meat/deli counter and was so disappointed to hear the language and topic of conversation. Very inappropriate. Then I saw the “Keith” working there. That did it for me, I left my little basket and walked out of the store. Haddam is such a nice little area, but I will not recommend staying there as this seems to be the only place close to do your grocery shopping. I guess when you think you are the only game in town you can do whatever you please without...

5 Stars for River Valley Provisions...the owners are making ever effort to have a differential to their food / market / specialty / butchery / local produce / fresh homemade items and more, in addition to the more conventional grocery store selections. Staff is friendly and beyond helpful. Spotless, good lighting, generous aisle widths and departments are intelligently laid out with perfect product / department adjacencies. A few of my favorite items - artisan breads - freshly baked, the edaname and recently added pork dumplings, homemade meatloaf and the macaroni and tuna fish pasta dish. This trip I discovered scratch cookies with cranberries and white chocolate chunks - heaven ! I must spend more time my next visit to River Valley Provisions...i am certain I will discover other delectable items...keep up the...
