Paid 175 for a diagnostic on a leak/overheating problem having to do with the radiator and engine, I said I suspected the headgasket is leaking based on what was told to me from a prior radiator shop mechanic and my own troubleshooting with the issue. Texts me the next day with a bunch of quotes having to do with wear and tear on the suspension wanting me to pay 1200 to get everything fixed in Mexico but said the leak was only about a 100 dollar fix. I decline the work on the suspension and say I only want the leak fixed/overheating fixed. He was only able to diagnose that it was leaking from the housing compartment underneath the radiator cap and wanted to charge me another 75 to replace a part beneath the cap to stop the leaking. I told him I had replaced a similar part a few months ago but when I asked him to text me that part he didn't send a photo or anything even after I told him I had fixed that part so I assumed he was going to fix a different part, he assured me this would fix the issue and said the engine was fine and even said the prior shop who told me it was the headgasket was trying to take advantage, so I pay him the 75 and he's not at the shop to explain to me the 175 diagnostic process or even recieve the money even though I told him the day before and texted him the same day that im coming over. His assistant calls him for me and he tells me the same thing that its not the headgasket and its leaking beneath the radiator cap and that it doesnt overheat after having been on all day, yeah simple stuff that really doesnt take any real work, just leave it on and keep an eye on the temperature gauge. I told him that the overheating occurs when driving it more than 30 minutes and leave the money for him to fix the leak. He texts me the next day and leaves me 4 missed calls just to ask for 20$ of gas to test drive the vehicle saying he cant test it without gas and is blowing up my phone just for this so he can charge me another 20 even though he said the diagnostic fee would go into the parts and labor. The work is done for what i paid so far 270$ but after all this i was like did the vehicle overheat again? Hes like "a little bit but I want to run further testing to see that is not a loose radiator cap". I told him that I dont want to be charged anymore if the overheating issue cannot be fixed and he immediately goes on the defensive and acts like okay do you want me to stop working on the vehicle like not even test it anymore or wanting to have anything to do with it. He gives me another explanation of why he couldn't fix the problem and now claims that the engine is building pressure and causes the radiator to leak. so he says he spent 4 hours driving around town and on highway speeds (probably just doing his own stuff anyway since he was never their at the shop when scheduled to meet up) and the engine doesnt overheat but runs hot and the temperature gauge goes about 3/4ths of the way but doesnt fully overheat, which I suspect is a lie because he just wants to separate himself from the issue and not be held responsible for what he told me. I see the work he did and in the end I spent 175 on a diagnostic fee that didn't diagnose anything for the issue I came in with, and spent another 95 to get the radiator cap replaced and the housing compartment replaced parts that cost only a out 10$ each and the work takes about 20 mins to do. Overall I felt disappointed in what was done, I felt he was dodgy and even rude at times over text but not in person. I just wanted to be done with this shop and get my jeep back because I could've done alot more myself with 270$ on the vehicle than what he claims he did, I felt i got unchanged and scammed at the end of the day. Don't believe them when they say they'll do a 3 month warranty because they will just backtrack on their word when the issue isn't fixed. I would e been fine if he charged me the 1200 to find the leak and fix the engine but since he wanted to upcharge me on other things I wasn't looking to get fixed i completely lost trust in...
