This was our first time there to see The Four Horseman’s Ultimate Tribute to Metallica! They sounded amazing! This club was like a Large Warehouse! Three bars to order your drinks from throughout the place. We got there about a half hour before the warm up band began to play and we were able to stand two tables away from the stage! They have an outside patio with a huge tree trunk in the middle of it with an octagon bench the whole way around it. They had enough room there that it was not crowded and people weren’t on top of each other. On the outside patio, they also had 3 separate gas fires in stone with 6-8 chairs around each one and to top it all off , it had a stone hearth gas fired too with seats around it! We were very impressed with how comfortable we felt there considering we knew absolutely no one. Other people there were very cool and fun as well! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you go check it out for yourself! I bought these tickets to the XL LIVE CLUB on TICKETMASTER but you can always get them @ the door! They had screens above places inside that advertised who and when other talent/entertainment was going to be there! There were plenty of individual restrooms for patrons to use that were private and never crowded waiting. We definitely want to go back there in the next three months or so to listen to more amazing talent! Security was everywhere and very personable too! It’s nice to see something like this open somewhat close to home! The only thing that wasn’t that good were the price for ALL DRINKS, whether with or without alcohol but for something nice like this to just get out and enjoy ourselves which doesn’t happen too much for us anymore, we would do it all over again! Can’t wait to see the guys from The Four Horsemen return again from Ohio but we are also excited about what other bands and shows that we will get to listen to in the near future! With tickets ONLY costing $10 a piece, it sure was...
Read moreI am Oregon Trail Generation. I remember going to awesome festivals for less than $20. Since any big name artist is just too much too swallow, we only like small venue shows now. This was our first time here and we were there to see Trampled by Turtles, bluegrass band. Show was great but even though the venue was very chill, I felt like it was so segregated, only a small portion of the audience actually had a chance of seeing the shoe. It was kind of weird.
The spaces appear to be pieced together over the years as it has expanded. Acoustic cushions shoved in willing nilly on the walls. We were in the other half where the pool tables were and everyone that couldn't fit in the main room was. There were multiple TV's. Even though we were at the front and had a good side view of the band, since they are so large, really just watching the TV was best to see what was going on. The sound didn't project well in that room. It was coming through so quiet my phone actually picked me up doing voice-to-text! It was a world of difference to be in the main room. In side room, which was the same as the main room, just with a wall between, there could have been a lot more tables and chairs. A lot more. Like you're just standing there watching TV. Might as well sit down. These might seem picky but these small things are usually what makes a small venue so enjoyable. Good show, reasonable price, but I'm still kicking myself for letting it sell out in Baltimore.
I would only come back if the act I wanted to see did not do anything in Bmore, Philly, or VA. I left three stars as the staff was excellent. Very chill and there was a nice area to go outside. Also, the parking was very well managed and free. Could have been worse. Definitely could have...
Read moreMarcus King Band brought me here all the way from NYC. Venue is pretty good but has the potential to improve, specially on sound quality.
I took an Uber from the Crowne Plaza and got dropped off right outside entrance of Club XL. As soon as my wife and I stepped out the car I smelled heavy cigarette smoke, turns out the cigarette dispenser next to the front door was on fire...still, not the best first impression. When I walked in, the desk, decor and overall format reminded me of a concession stand at a movie theater (not the prettiest ambiance!). Once on the club floor itself, I was surprised at the space, the amount of bar space and configuration, They also project a live video feed from the stage on a giant TV screen system in the back so you don't miss out when going for re-fills at the bar.
One major thing that needs tweaking and improving is their sound quality. To me, sound is EVERYTHING when I pay to see a LIVE show. Overall, XL's sound was not totally terrible but definitely needs attention. The live vocals were a bit distorted and you could actually hear the sound clipping from time to time. I even looked up at the sound man a couple of times to see if he had a worried look in his face but nope, he was happily chewing his gum while rockin to the music and incredibly didn't seem to notice it. I've seen this particular band live before at the Gramercy Theater in NYC and the sound there was amazing, night and day.
Overall, XL is a nice club with lots of potential, they seem to be booking some great bands and that's what matters...everything else I've mentioned...
