Tonight was my first experience with this restaurant. Also, my last. Long review ahead, with details. Quick version: Ordered carryout for 2. Shrimp fried rice and seafood fried rice. Plus 2 apps, spring rolls and crispy spring rolls. And it ALL ENDED UP THROW IN THE TRASH. There was no flavor!!! Like eating soggy rice cakes!!
The only thing that had ANY flavor was the 2 sauces that came with the apps. I have never been so disappointed with a meal. If you have read this far, you are likely looking for a decent spot for some Vietnamese food- do yourself a favor, try a different spot. Allow my wasted $48.29 be the price paid to save your money.
More detailed version: The fried rice was so bland that even adding soy sauce and trying to spice it up at home we were still looking at each other asking, "do we have C19?!?" (We don't!) I tried the crispy spring rolls and said they were decent... then was advised to try it without the dipping sauce... no flavor. It was all the sauce. Same thing with the spring rolls. Mostly bland filler and a THINLY sliced shrimp in a 2" thick spring roll. The peanut sauce that accompanied the rolls was actually pretty good. I had the seafood fried rice - after realizing how bland the fried rice was, I tried to eat just the seafood. Shrimp and Fish ball, no flavor. Imitation crab was as expected, but the squid... wow. It was like chewing on rubber. I had to spit it out. We were both starving and still couldn't choke it down. Did I call the restaurant? No. Whats the point? I'm not going back, and I'm. Just hoping this honest review helps save someone else from wasting money on a flavorless meal. Unless thats what you're looking for... but then, why would you want Vietnamese food??? When I think of Vietnamese food I think of "aromatic and spicy but subtle, with clean bright flavors." Pho 99 falls well short of these expectations. Sorry, no pics on this review... I was so disappointed, (and still starving), that I forgot to snap a few before it hit...
Read moreComing to pho 99, I always have in the back of my head the customer service is going to be horrible!!! But the pho is really good. My last visit here I had a horrible experience. First off, the host was not so much welcoming, instead of walking us to our seat he pointed out where he wanted us to sit. Also, he was sweeping while people were eating, after ordering an appetizer, an older woman came from behind the closed kitchen doors with a bonnet, gloves, and sandals scratching her head then proceeded to wipe her hands on her legs WITH THE GLOVES ON. When our waiter was questioned if the woman was a cook, he looked confused then quickly said she was a dish washer. He then went to the guy who was host and started laughing while looking at our table. The HORRIBLE customer service we did received within 10 minutes being there was enough for us to cancel our order and take our business elsewhere. If anything I do recommend NEW ORLEANS PO BOYS which is in the same mall.
THIS PLACE TO QUICK TO...
Read moreThis place used to be one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants to go to on a WEEKLY basis. Lately, the service has not been the greatest nor the cleanliness. I went this past Saturday, the booth I sat at was slimey and dirty from the customer before me. The containers that store Fish sauce, soy sauce etc were filthy. At times I have caught myself cleaning them off myself while waiting for food but now there aren't even napkins on the tables. I also noticed that my bill was more than normal (I didn't notice this until after I pulled out of parking lot) I get a large P8 and order of Shrimp spring rolls and it's always around $22-23, This time it was $26.95. After reviewing my bank account this morning, it also appears an additional $2 was added to the total order (I purposely leave cash tips for servers instead of on cards for this reason) Also they charge a small percentage for all customers paying with cards...
