Superior Grocers — Local services in Hawthorne

They've done a lot of remodeling to make their store bigger and nicer and offer more things so visually, the store looks really nice now... However, it still highly caters to Hispanics and the stuff they eat.

The prices can be high on some things that you can definitely buy cheaper at other markets... They sell homemade or freshly made tamales in the back now. The chicken one was a little dry but nothing a little sour cream or salsa can't fix.. The jalapeno and cheese 🫔 was very good..

My only issue is it can be hard to find someone who speaks English if you have a question..

The other day I was in there looking for hot dog buns as they were not located where the bread is.. I assumed due to the remodel they were somewhere I wouldn't normally look.

I asked 3 different people including the cashier and neither one of them understood what I was saying... So I just said, forget it and left without them..

I'm not saying they don't have any English-speaking workers, but that day I couldn't find one.. I have asked some of the guys stocking the aisles where something was before, and they were able to understand and answer me clearly, but I shouldn't have had to travel all over the store to find somebody to communicate with..

I also don't like that sometimes the cashiers just automatically start speaking to me in Spanish and I'm Black and there's no way they think I'm spanish speaking.

I don't understand hiring people that can't communicate with ALL of your customers, but as I said, this store primarily caters to Hispanics and I don't think the mgmt. really cares about their inability to speak English..

They also have a security guard when you walk in who's there with a gun and the whole bit which is a little off putting when going to the grocery store.. I don't see this when I shop at Ralphs near my home in Redondo Beach.. But I guess they think...

This has got to be the worse grocery store experience ever. I go to grab a few items and head towards the checkout line. A few lanes are open and the self checkout is clear and no one is waiting. As soon as I walk up Adriana yelled at me saying no no no I couldn’t checkout there. Adriana barely spoke any English so I continued to walk to the checkout. She called over Jenisse and oh boy she has thee worse attitude from jump. She was so aggressive and rude. Jenisse immediately got an attitude without even knowing what was going on. She assumed I was paying with card when I was in fact paying with cash and the self checkout only accepted cash…I went to an lane were Margie was and asked her if she can call a manager over, come to find out Jenisse is a “head cashier”. She called her over and she completely ignored Margie and kept walking so I asked her to call someone above Jenisse. Kimberlin came over, heard me out and was very understanding of the situation and apologized on Superiors behalf of Jenisse actions and Margie was able to assist me with such a positive demeanor. This particular location is the only location I’ve had a problem at and I’m very uncomfortable with shopping here now. Jenisse and Adriana should go over the customer service training just a little more before getting put into those positions. We need more Margie’s and Kimberlins at...

This store is amazing. It is wide and spacious which makes it easy and faster to get around. They have their products well organized and accessible. It is always clean and holds no safety hazards. The staff can usually be seen with a smile and a positive look. They are also always kind and glad to help you if you cant find a specific product. The way they organized the store makes it easy to find what you need. The fruits and vegetable are always nice and fresh. The meat as well. All food products are clean and edible. I am very pleased with thus store and I think that they have done great with it. The parking lot is huge and you will never have trouble with finding a spot to park in. It is also kid friendly and they alway have great deal in a variety of products. I am more that happy to recommend this store to someone in search of a positive, clean,...
