Fantastic experience beyond the rating of this hotel.
I was deeply troubled by HVAC noise in my apartment home so fled here for 2 nights of sleep and enjoyed the best sleep in two months.
There’re 3 TownePlace Suites in Hawthorne and this one shares the same building with Courtyard by Marriott. Unlike the 2-star hotel rating shown on Google Map, this TownePlace shares the interior design, parking lot, and some common areas (swimming pool, 24-hour fitness center, etc) and everything was brand new. I have tried Marriott chains from Embassy Suites to Ritz Carton, I’d say this TownePlace beats even some old-age Ritz Carton. For the nights I stayed, the cost for TownePlace was 15% higher than Courtyard by Marriott.
Pros: Interior design - brand new and modern. You get a couch, king bed, work station, full kitchen with dishwasher, and a fridge in a King Bed Suite. Exterior - shares the building and the parking lot with Courtyard by Marriott. Except for a smaller lobby, the design was generally trendy and on par with Marriott. They even share continuous guest room numbers. Neighborhood - sits between Hawthorne city hall and Hawthorne Library, and BOA and Starbucks a block away. Felt safe in this neighborhood. Parking - $18/night and plenty of parking space. Free breakfast - 6-9 am weekdays and 6-10 am weekends. General continent breakfast, not too many options tho and can get crowded after 8 am: egg, breakfast sausage, baked potato, oatmeal, bagel, muffin, coffee, milk, etc. Stellar customer service - addressed my needs fast and professionally; staff were all friendly from the front desk to janitors to meal prep staff. There was a vent noise the first night I checked in at 11 pm. Called the front desk and the lady responded quickly. She sent the request to engineering ward and the engineer showed up and fixed the problem within 10 minutes. On Sunday morning my neighbor unit played loud music, jumped, and shouted at 7:30 am. Called the front desk again and the guy resolved the problem for me in 3 minutes. Things always happen but how staff responded showed the quality of hotel management. Fitness center - 24/7 and sits between the two hotels. It has a big dance/yoga studio with full mirror. Towel service, cardio, and weight areas. Other things standing out - two makeup removers over the counter; smart TV; over the bed table.
Minor cons: The toilet flushed in a weird way. The water did not fill up after each flush but in about 10 minutes. It created big noise when other unit (maybe the one downstairs) flushed theirs. Hotel rooms facing the City Hall might find some early morning noise if there’re outdoor events happening in the City Hall parking lot.
I was very happy...
Read moreThis is our second stay here and the first visit went a lot smoother than this time. I think staying here in the summer is why it wasn't as good. This hotel is really busy and unfortunately not as enjoyable during the summer. The pool got really cloudy and dirty by the afternoon. There was a HUGE birthday going on with people not staying there. This happened last time with a huge party for Easter and they left garbage and easter eggs/candy all over the pool area. I hope they can crack down on these big parties people have. They book like one room and invite tons of people, use the grill, use the nice fire pits and take over the whole pool area.
The breakfast area was so busy that they opened the doors to the other hotel, I'm guessing for more seating, but the problem is that opened it up for those guests to eat our breakfast for free, which they don't have included. It was extra crowded. I don't understand why sometimes they don't have butter especially when there are waffles. But when they do have butter they don't have cream cheese for the bagels. They alternate and it doesn't make sense. Having both out would be appreciated!
As always, the coffee is great and always available and we appreciate the tea/hot chocolate options.
The key was on and off working again like last time. But it was very quiet at night in our room and I'm so grateful we didn't t have any loud neighbors. Beds/pillows are great.
Our bathroom door kept jamming and wouldn't shut all the way. It's a farm door so when it won't shut you have to pull super hard and that was difficult in the middle of the night needing to use the bathroom and not wake the kids. I also don't like the clear shower cause nobody can use the bathroom sink area while someone's showering if they want privacy (think teenage girls!).
Lastly, if you come later in the evening the parking is tricky cause the only few spots are in front of the library and it says library parking so I'm not sure if we are allowed to use that. Parking way on the far end of the other hotel made me nervous because of people partying in the parking lot at their cars and I don't think they were at the hotel. I was afraid to walk through there with my little kids. Security patrolling the parking lot might be helpful.
With all of those things, I still like this hotel and the location. But most importantly I love the staff. Both times we've stayed they were so friendly and always said hi and greeted me with a smile. So with that, thank you for always...

We stayed here for a week while visiting LA. The hotel is fairly new being built a little over 3 years ago, and still feels new. Rooms were larger than we expected which was a delight. Beds as mentioned by others was very comfortable and we never had a bad sleep, however pillows might be a hit or miss depending on your personal preference. If you're picky, bring your own pillow. We rented a 2 queen bed room with a pull out couch bed. The sofa bed had little or no padding and wasn't very good. Added the sofa seats on top to make my son a comfortable place to sleep fixed that issue.
Staff was very friendly and courteous, we had a issue with the garburator and there was someone at the room within minutes. This is fantastic service.
Breakfast was no frills and will feed your childs stomachs, but don't expect anything fancy. Luckily there are plenty of breakfast options nearby if you don't like what's offered, that's what we did. With that being said, the coffee was fantastic and I drank it twice everyday. Didn't even bother to go to the nearby Starbucks, it was that good.
There is a pool and hot tub outside which we used once, there was the occasional loud party out there, but that's expected with this hotel catering to families and kids. Speaking of kids, don't be alarmed if you hear sprinters in training on the floor above you, kids will be kids.
There is a 18 dollar a day parking fee, but that didn't seem to bother many as the lot was almost completely full by 10PM each night, regardless of day. The area is quite safe with City hall across the street, and the Police HQ just beside that.
Please note there is no Shuttle anymore, you will have to take an Uber or Taxi from LAX which will cost you around $25 each way.
To the staff of Townplace Suites, to the maids, front desk, maintenance workers, and engineers, thank you, all of you were wonderful and...
