Nice place. The front of the store has nice clothing at affordable prices. Mostly women's I think, but don't hold me to that, as I walked right by that stuff to the record section! In the back of the store are records and CDs.
The owner use to run a record store, but said he can't pay the bills doing just that any more. He's a good guy, and knows the market value of most records at a glance. He's asking a little much for classical records, considering other places just give them away or sell them for a buck or less.
He's got a couple of racks of records in the back that are just stuffed; no room to flip through them. I think that means the prices are too high, esp. compared to internet.
He's got a good amplifier and turntable, and he will put a record or CD on for you upon request. That alone saved me the cost of buying several that I wouldn't enjoy, so I was happy to pay his asking price for the rock records, and negotiated a small discount for the classical ones.
It's also worth noting that the used records were, on average, in better shape than Goodwill or Half Price books.
To test his honesty, I asked what he thought of the Crosley Cruiser turntable he is carrying. I was surprised and delighted when he said: "Ah, it's OK if you're just getting into vinyl, but the sound is not as good as a component grade turntable." (those Crosleys are known for poor sound quality; I have an Ion version of the same thing, and it is indeed OK for a portable unit, but nothing you'd want to listen to if you had other options) So, A+ for honesty too.
In summary: He has a good selection of music, considering the small amount of real estate he's got. His knowledge and helpfulness are both top notch. I bought a small stack of records from him, and was happy to support this local record store.
If you're an audiophile, come on in, and bring your wife. She can peruse the clothes, while you peruse the records, and maybe even find some music for...
Read moreWas recently gifted a record player and after reading about this shop online, I decided to check it out. I should note, this is both a record shop and clothing shop. The record selection was decent. Only complaint was that it was a little cramped and hard to look through. The used records I did purchase were in excellent condition! The owner took the time to discuss my records with me, even though they were busy. I ended up purchasing not only a few records, but also a few pieces of handmade jewelry. Definitely check it out for the record selection and be sure to browse the rest of the...
Read moreDrove an hour to visit this store. Owners were super nice and had amazing genuine customer service. Very trendy clothes. Young girls working the floor/cashier asked me to keep my bag in the front while I tried on clothes and checked the fitting room after me. Didn’t ask other people to do the same. Uncomfortable experience not by the owners but by who was working. Didn’t give them any weird idea that I wasn’t there to spend money. Would love to come back but...
