We’ve heard nothing but great things about Hilton Head National so were very excited to try it. This was our experience. We arrived on a Wednesday and after checking in, were escorted to our site (required) and the attendant guided my husband into our site. Upon doing so, he (the escort, it’s too low for the driver to see) didn’t notice the post at the site across from us, and led him into it, causing a 7” scratch on the RV. He told my husband about it like it happened all the time and was no big deal. We went to the office and told the lady at the desk what happened. As she was typing notes into the computer, he walked in. She said, “did you guide them into a post?” He said, “yep.” She shook her head and told us she was sending a message to management. I never received a call from anyone so called the office on Friday and asked to speak to a manager. He wasn’t in but she said she’d text him to call me. I got a call from Kurt (Kirk?) and I explained the situation and said I felt they should take responsibility. He said he needed to do some investigation and would call me back. I assumed the investigation might include looking at the damage. We left Saturday and never received a call back. We chose to stay in the Water’s Edge section which is considered more exclusive (it's more expensive) and is gated from the rest of the resort. We left to get groceries and when we returned, our key card wouldn’t work at the gate. Back to the office. She said we were given the wrong key cards. She made new ones and told us it would take a few minutes for them to activate. We left and tried to go back into the resort. The key cards wouldn’t work. One of the escorts scanned his card so we could get past the first gate. We got to the Water’s Edge section and it still wouldn’t work. My husband dropped me off to walk to the RV while he drove around waiting to be able to get in, with the groceries. They knew it wasn’t going to work and didn’t bother to go ahead and open the gate for us. Both times we were the only guests in the office, so they had the capacity to change a wrong to a right. Our cards never worked at the gate for either pool. The good… • The view from the Waters Edge pool is beautiful. The golf course looks immaculate. • Our dogs LOVED all the walking paths – some around the water, some through the woods. There are dog waste stations on every road. • The dog park is huge with separate areas for small and large dogs. There’s also a free dog wash. • The shower houses look clean and had individual locking doors. The laundry was attached and looked top notch. • The pads are huge with top quality seating for four, and a firepit. There is firewood for sale, and they deliver it to your site. • The front desk ladies and the bartender at Water’s Edge were very friendly and helpful. The bad...We’re extremely disappointed that a place who considers themselves “luxury” would have such a lack of accountability...
Read moreFirst off, I don’t typically like to write negative reviews about people or businesses. Normally, we only do reviews for things that surpass expectations. In this case I felt this needed to be an exception because I was doing a disservice to other families by not letting them know what they were getting into. Worst case of no see ums (sand flies that bite and itch like crazy) that we have ever had in 42 states. We tried multiple types of bug spray and still got bit so much it looks like we have chickenpox. Pool and lazy river are supposedly heated, but are actually frigid. Even checked to see if the jets were blowing heated water, nope it was colder than the pool. 🤔 Price at check-in suddenly changes and you are forced whether you agree or not to pay extra for the same site that you originally booked, just because you have a trailer. (I even stated when I booked it online that we are pulling a trailer. ) Even if you don’t take up more than half of the “Buddy site” they do not care. They refuse to budge or make any exceptions whatsoever. They force you to pay extra for the site or pay extra to park it elsewhere. You don’t have the right to use the space that you are paying for as you see fit. Most all of their policies seem to be in place just to charge you more money. Not allowed to bring firewood, even if you purchase it locally. You must purchase it directly from them. Not allowed to bring personal golf carts, but once again you can rent one from them. The price! We originally booked this area because everything around Savannah was full. We decided to pay the extra money for this place because of the accommodations, size, pool, etc. Pictures have been attached showing details of space for trailers. They tell you that there’s going to be a pancake breakfast and pajamas on Sunday mornings. You show up and they tell you sorry we couldn’t find a cook. WTF You run a resort and you have the kitchen closed for pancakes but you can’t find some to cook them. WOW You can go to the pool but if you want a table with shade you have to pay for that too. To put it short and sweet, you could pay less money and get a nicer hotel room. $1064.90 for seven days of a parking spot with these kinds of rules and restrictions is ridiculous! We thought it was going to be a luxury resort but ended up being one of our least favorites out of the 70+ parks we have been to so far. Please beware and think twice before...
