WORST EVER. Very very strongly recommend against working with Tony. He turned out to be our biggest nightmare and one of the worst people I've interacted with in my life. He started off being extremely polite and charming when he wanted our business and promised us a lot. Then, there were significant errors in the work they did. After that he turned hostile and mean. All he cares about is getting his contract signed and getting money. There's no attention to detail, work is full of mistakes, and zero accountability.

He installed the wrong tiles in the bathroom. When we pointed this out he said they were correct and he didn't have anything in writing to suggest he was wrong. We showed him our messages with details and pictures, now when that proved him wrong, he said, "I don't want to have these nonsensical conversations, you are changing your mind and want to get free work".

He regularly shouted at my wife throughout the job when she interacted with him to work through the details, saying things like, "I'm not your errand boy" when she told him which hardware to order, it was written that he was responsible for purchasing the hardware which was included in the cost.

When we told him that he had done things wrong, he stopped work, leaving our bathroom incomplete until we agreed to pay him in full. Once he got this in writing he resumed work, and the mistakes never got fixed.

He habitually lied. On the phone he agreed to a deal with us in the morning, I sent him an email summarizing the conversation and later in the day he sneakily tried to change the terms so we had to pay him more. When I called this out in writing and told him to be explicit about the deal we had agreed to on the phone, he refused to do it. He verbally told us things he would not charge us for, but he did in the final invoice.

He kept saying that he had done more work for us than initially anticipated as they found plumbing issues, he made it sound like a favor, but increased our cost by 15% for it. I have no issues with paying for work if they deserve it but he kept making it sound like we were at fault and he did us some big favor.

Even his workers kept telling us that the expectations he had given us were unrealistic and this is his regular demeanor. Tony made us feel like we were at fault by telling us that in his entire career he had never encountered problems like ours so we were at fault, but we discovered this is normal for him. His other Google reviews talk about similar experiences and we ran into friends who had used him, had terrible experiences, had to fire him and get everything redone.

When we told him he had done things wrong, his reply was, "what are you going to do, sue me?". He entered our apartment and told my four year old child, "I have to go fight with your mommy". This shows how he treats his clients and I definitely don't recommend someone like this.

Overall, work was not done to specification, there are rookie mistakes throughout which his team didn't fix and made excuses, and he is one of the meanest people to...

We had to fire them 3 weeks into the job, the work done was horrible, tony made excuses and yelled at us because his work was bad, and he did not listen to us when we chose materials (ordered all the wrong things and told us we were wrong). He promised a lot but delivered on none of it. We had to hire a new contractor to not only finish the job but do repairs on the job Tony’s team did. The multiple contractors we interviewed after we fired Tony all agreed that we made the right decision by firing him because the work being done was so poor. FYI i tried to post this on Houzz and the site informed me Tony is a paying member with the ability to remove negative reviews, his awards are bogus as some are awarded by simply uploading a professional picture. I mean huge red flags we missed is that there is no office, contractor ID does not match Tony’s name, no storage facility/ truck to hold/ haul materials, and “Tony’s Team” consisted of different men entering our home each day...Multiple HKB customers who have seen the same results have reached out to me to help them find a new contractor, and it looks like they have been bullied to take down their reviews... I will not be as it is your right as a consumer to be informed honestly. I am leaving this review here so you do not end up like us...out thousands of dollars because we went with HKB.

Update: -The following work was done by Tony and his team, and what we had to fix: Ceiling & leak repair- we now have very uneven ceilings, the wrong sheetrock was installed, and the leak they opened the ceiling for was never repaired. Ceiling had mildew and Tony told his team not to replace the ceiling. New contractor had to replace all the ceilings, and we paid for the work to be done a second time. The floors- removed hardwood floors. Replaced the floor with laminate . Did not even out the base boards so floors are uneven, and huge spaces and cracks were left. Also floors were not covered so the team left spackle and paint stains on BRAND NEW FLOORS. We have to live with uneven floors, and our new contractor helped us even it out as best as possible with molding and removal of all the stains. Re-tiling of 3 balconies- Tony bought the wrong tile, put the tile on top of the existing tile, took siding off of the house and put tile on it( we did not ask for this and it looked horrible) did not seal the balconies, and now all 3 leak, are uneven, and visibly crooked. We ran out of budget and will need to hold off on fixing these until next summer. Demolition and garbage removal- the icing on the cake... left all the demolition garbage in the house which caused a bug infestation, and the garbage he claimed he removed we found weeks later piled up in our garage which included the cabinets and possibly garbage from his other projects. his men broke one of our marble tables, and we were told he moved the stone to the garage, but of course it was never found. We had to pay to dispose of it all, even though we were told we had already paid for...

We reached out to Hoboken Kitchen & Bath (Tony Theodore) to help us renovate our kitchen and bathroom. Our personal experience from initial meeting to final punch list and completion was awesome. We also had the added challenges of doing this from a distance since moving from Hoboken to what is now our primary home in Hawaii. We especially needed someone that we could trust and rely on for overseeing our Hoboken renovation from beginning to end since we would not be local during most of the project.

Tony from Hoboken Kitchen & Bath promptly met us to do a walk thru of our project. He gave us some great ideas and we were glad to have them in order to help us with our final decision on what to do and what not to do. We wanted this renovation to be for us and also to ensure we were getting as much value added as possible from this project.

Tony called out things to help us, some of which suggested things like we should expand our counter top to accommodate more storage and seating, a pocket door solution to solve for working around a small bathroom footprint, more lighting to make things more uniform. He literally made our kitchen look super customized and our bath/shower combination feel like a luxury spa and hotel. At the end of the day, he and his team transferred builder grade to customized in weeks.

Tony and his team was also incredibly flexible throughout the renovation. Even as we were coming up with “what if” situations he and his team accommodated everything that was reasonably possible and within our budget, such as adding a glass enclosure to our toilet and changing the vanity for more space even as they were close to completion. He gave us reasonable updated estimates for these last minute client initiated add ons and was able to layer this into his team and their schedules. The communication was great throughout and he also kept our very strict condo association and admin team updated which we greatly appreciated for sure.

Our renovation finished only about a week longer than expected but that was due to the added extras that were not part of our original scope so we were very grateful for his team being able to keep to the estimated timeline..

Lastly, we really love our new kitchen and bathroom and all our family and friends that have stayed and used our apartment to date have all complimented on how nice and comfortable they were when using our newly renovated apartment.

Based upon our personal experience, we highly recommend Tony, his team and Hoboken Kitchen & Bath. We were fortunate enough to have teamed up with a skilled contractor and designer who not only cares about the work but also his client relationships. Not only did we get gain a fabulous renovated kitchen and bathroom but also a friend at the same time.

See our before, during and after pics!

Mahalo! Tony and team for the...
