I Went into the emergency room for a torn meniscus on 11-26-24. I had this same surgery 2 years ago on my opposite knee. I went through all the hoops of taking unnecessary x-rays for “insurance purposes” when I really just need an MRI and surgery the staff never asked me to rate my pain but offered Tylenol. after waiting 3-4 hours I was sent out without a doctors note for work or pain management. My leg is stuck in a fixed position from a bucket handle tear. I was told I would have an appointment with shoreline that day or the following. I called shoreline and they told me I would not be seen until 6 days later for an appointment to be evaluated meaning I won’t even be receiving treatment in a week but rather evaluated for an MRI where I will be sent right back to this poor excuse for an emergency room. I am in excruciating pain and will be in bed through thanksgiving. I was able to get up at first but the gravity weighing my foot towards the floor put me in to much pain. My hip is now in pain from being under so much tension that I can no longer get up out of bed without wanting to throw up from pain. My primary care office also apart of holland hospital prescribed me basic anti inflammatory medication to get me through 6 days and basically said we’re full so you’re on your own. Shorelines receptionist has the second to worst customer service I have ever experienced right behind holland hospitals emergency room. I don’t think I even saw a doctor during my visit, if I did they did not introduce themselves as such (The State will love that) I do not have sick pay or vacation to cover this experience. I work in healthcare and see this type of blatant disregard for other humans every single day and it makes me sick. I dedicate my life to taking care of people and when it comes to my turn this is what I get. You bleed people of the little money they have with all your “mandatory” testing to appease insurance companies who bleed us dry every paycheck and then order referral after referral until we’re stuck with a massive bill. But don’t worry everyone “no surprise billing” oh you’re still going to pay a massive bill but at least there graciously going to be upfront about it because you don’t have a choice. Service with a smile. Do not go here for emergency services this is just one experience I have had here of many. The Birth center is excellent. my other surgery’s have all been great before during and after but the emergency room is hands down the worst I have ever been in. The attached picture is how I will be...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in my first experience this week with Holland Hospital. Especially, disappointed and concerned with the ED physician who was caring for my young pediatric relative. My relative experienced their first tonic-clonic seizure with no precipitating event. They were found conscious but unresponsive seizing on the floor after falling from a standing position in the shower. When they came-too they were disoriented, confused, had memory loss and kept repeating themselves, the unwitnessed fall gave high potential for head/brain injury. On the way to the ED they vomited and had since experienced nausea.
While in the ED they received observation and vital monitoring, only. No labs or testing was ordered, no fluids were given, no medication administered, no EEG or ECG completed, and no imaging was ordered. The ERP came across as dismissive and resistant to basic diagnostic steps to rule out underlying emergent issues. Since my relative looked okay and was talking and smiling he ruled out an emergency and his plan was to continue visual observations, monitoring vitals, and then discharge. I explained in great detail medical history and context of the events previous to the seizure. I requested three times for imaging be completed, at a minimum, to at least rule out a head/brain injury. I then had to over-explain my concern for why I thought imaging was necessary. He finally ordered imaging. He also then consulted Neurology, but both of these were only completed because of my persistence. A medication increase was ordered and the ERP offered no clear guidance on adverse effects to monitor for, from the medication change because as he quoted, “I don’t know that, I don’t prescribe that medication but we can probably look it up and put it in the discharge paperwork.”
A pediatric patient with atypical tonic-clonic seizure, possible head/brain injury from an unwitnessed fall, who was still experiencing nausea required a greater level of care that shouldn’t have needed advocation to semi- receive. The level of care in this incident from the ERP at Holland Hospital was unacceptable and concerning for patients and their families.
As a healthcare professional myself, I expected a standard of care that ensures ethical, quality, patient safety—not one that doesn’t follow standard care guidelines for...
Read moreThe two girls that attended me were proficient and courteous. I was in the ER as an incident where I had fallen and several tests were undertaken but those tests were not indicated in the discharge papers. The oral information given at dismissal were that the tests were all positive so I was discharged. I thought I had a sprained ankle and I believe three X-rays were taken of the ankle and that no problems showed up in the results. There was a sizeable cut on the outside of the ankle that the medics from the fire department had bandaged. This bandage was removed to take the foot X-rays and to my knowledge neither the technician nor the doctor looked at it again.
This cut has caused considerable problems and the foot is swollen. I thought the foot pain was due to the cut which I could not reach to examine nor treat and thought maybe it was infected . Evidently there has been muscle damage in my back and am in serious pain. Instructions were to see my doctor and the first appt available with her is Monday, tomorrow, 4 days later at which time I’ll be able to get more information about the tests done in the ER , all of which, I was told showed no problems. It does seem to me that since a doctor was assigned, at the very least he would have looked at the large cut on the ankle and made sure it was cleaned and rebandaged. Since I had hit a cement wall, it seems like it would have been reasonable to check more than whether a bone was broken. The doctor popped in to let us know that the several tests had been sent for analysis. I’m not sure why a doctor was assigned to me unless he had to tell which tests to have done and did not need to do more. Everyone was so nice that this sounds negative but it is not meant to be. I assume that surveys are intended to reveal ways for the ER to improve its services.
I just talked to my son who was with me in the ER and he says the doctor did personally check my foot and was very nice. My apologies for the...
