My surgeon, Dr. Dishinger, was amazing. I loved a couple of the nurses who monitored me as I was recovering from surgery. I will say that there was some miscommunication between the ER staff (where I came in initially) and the staff in the surgical wing. I was being told different things about my surgery from different people. There was a point before my surgery that I had low blood sugar (I am type 1 diabetic) and I wasn’t supposed to eat or drink before surgery. I was left alone for 20 plus minutes not feeling good, when the nurse knew I had low blood sugar. I don’t think the nurse really understood the urgency of a diabetic with low blood sugar and how dangerous it can be. My mom kind of snapped at one of the nurses and raised her voice slightly, and the nurse completely disregarded her point and threatened to have her escorted out of the building. All the while I still had low blood sugar. They finally were able to give me an iv with glucose to raise my blood sugar up. Besides all of these initial issues, I was treated very well the next several days I spent recovering in the hospital. Met with Dr Houskamp expecting to have surgery. After a short but very thorough exam I was very surprised when he said that he was quite sure it wasn't necessary. He was not in a hurry and explained everything in very layman terms. All this was coming on the heels of a couple surgeries over the years.
