I first learned about Hawaii Move Lab when my friend booked a group wellness retreat. It was such a great experience that incorporated both fun and healing in one session. The room is laid out so nicely with aspects of aromatherapy, greenery, and allows for a lot of space to try out a lot of different features. It's well-kept, clean, & felt like we had our own little group spa getaway with all sorts of recovery therapies to choose from. The staff help orient you with everything available in the room, & once you're comfortable with your surroundings, they leave the room to you & your group. There's call buttons if you need help at any time during the session, so it's a really private session and so nice to just relax. I've been back with other groups because it's such a fun experience to do with your friends!
I've also utilized physical therapy services with them. I had a previous injury from surfing & after further evaluation with ortho, realized I had a SLAP tear, so I got referred to Hawaii Move Lab for PT after being familiar with their recovery services. Both Peter & Jamie are trained DPTs that are so knowledgeable & professional. I got the chance to work with Peter for my sessions. We started off by him doing his own assessment on my injury & general mobility/flexibility, & then asked for my goals & expectations. From there, he walked me through the general game plan and structure of how each session would go & what my "homework" was during the week outside of our PT sessions. Each week was a challenge and their approach is very whole-body oriented and well-rounded. I wasn't only doing exercises to pinpoint my shoulder, but felt that I was able to strengthen multiple muscle groups and feel stronger overall. Peter would check in with me during the weeks until our next session, and even offered to send motivational messages to help me stay consistent with my home exercises until we were able to work in the move lab weekly. Each week, I found myself feeling less pain, and gaining strength and confidence. Before every session, Peter would check in to see how I was feeling and ask if there were target areas I would want to work on, whether it was for the work out itself or for our soft-tissue manipulation before we started the exercises. (This was my favorite part! Haha literally it is the best, most catered massage you will ever receive!!). Peter came up with a bunch of new exercises each week for us to try, and helped me get creative about what equipment I could use at home in the meantime since I didn't have a gym membership at the time. He adjusted movements if they induced pain. He would also check to make sure I understood why we were doing the exercises & how it was working my muscles. Even taught me how to stretch & foam roll correctly so I could recover in between sets or afterwards appropriately. I appreciated that it wasn't only about reducing pain, but also optimizing strength, increasing fitness/recovery IQ, & building confidence.
They're really flexible and work with your schedule. As someone who works in a job where I only get one day off a week, & work 12+ hours a day, it was such a life-saver having them accommodate me so I could work on recovering consistently every week.
Most times I left every session very sore (& for at least a day after too haha), but feeling so accomplished. It was wonderful to see the progression over the weeks, & at the end of it, I came to a point where I regained full function without any pain. Peter and Jamie have been so incredibly supportive in my recovery journey. While I juggled a really touch job schedule & workload, these physical therapy sessions not only helped me physically, but mentally & emotionally as well. I look forward to utilizing other features of their recovery options for general wellness & even hope to participate at their free athletic club workshops! I have gained life-long skills that go beyond just healing from my injury, & I would recommend Hawaii Move Lab to any of my family & friends over & over again.

Read moreI have known Peter for about 6 years. I met him while on an intense knee-related rehabilitation after going through several physical therapists who were not making much difference in my rehab progress. When I met Peter, I knew almost instantly that I was in the good hands. I never wanted to have anyone else work with me (and my family) but him after that. After completing a productive series of sessions with him, my knee stability improved drastically, and I was able to play competitive adult tennis league, ski, hike, dance, etc. The sessions included initial assessment and diagnostics, massages, flexibility, strengthening, and learning from him how to continue to work on all of that on my own. Peter had a professional and caring demeanor, patient and systematic approach, and expertise that he was gladly willing to share with me. When my three children (now teens) got involved with different sports, we quickly realized that a large majority of coaches are not trained to physically develop young athletes, and can often cause unintentional harm by improperly approaching training the youth. We saw serious injuries around very young children once too often, and turned to Peter to learn how to prevent injuries and how to safely and age-appropriately increase athletic performance. Aside from Peter’s vast knowledge and effectiveness in rehabilitating injuries, I see a bright spark in his eye when athletes want to learn from him how to properly prepare their bodies for high performance or inquire about injury prevention that they will continue to implement on their own. I see the evidence of his knowledge and expertise in teaching these pro-active skills to all that are eager to learn. Our children began learning from him years ago, and regardless of their age, Peter was able to engage them and relate to them appropriately on how their body works through showing them ways to do various exercises properly, what details to pay attention to when performing an exercise, how to self-assess and adjust the difficulty of each exercise depending on their body feedback, when to work on flexibility, when to work on strength, and when to ask for help. They were mostly injury free and are highly successful as tri-sport athletes. However, when the small injuries happened, usually due to an unpredicted impact in the game, or rapid growth, Peter was always accessible to help them out wherever in the world we happen to be. He is dedicated to his work, and is a great role model to youth. That is also why I like to have my children around him – to know how to recognize such individuals in their lives, and hopefully become as applied as Peter in whatever occupation they chose. I really value that he is prioritizing education to foster independence rather than reliance on his services as he works to empower each athlete/individual he works with to gain knowledge how to take care of his/her own body. We are forever grateful for meeting Peter, working with him and learning from him. Although we have not worked with Jamie, we met her and saw her work in a similar manner to Peter. They make a good team, and we continue to hear excellent feedback from our peers about both. In addition, if you have not done so, it is worth making it over to see the clean, well-equipped, and elegantly designed facilities; and use the variety of additional rehab and recovery services that Hawaii...
Read moreHawaii Move Lab is such a unique place. I'm glad they exist. Location is perfect for me, very close in proximity from where I live and lots of good eateries after a good workout. The place is well maintained and clean. Parking is a bit small, lots of pot holes around the area and road work due to the rail, however, there’s always parking available as it’s based on appointment ONLY. VERY important to make an appointment!!!
Both Jaime and Peter are very passionate at what they do and very knowledgeable. SUPER friendly, and knows how to get things done. I worked with Peter throughout my session along with my best friend. The best part of it is you get to workout TOGETHER and that’s what makes your workout super fun and deserving. Peter also modify lots of workout for me to hit every parts of my body. He makes you choose a song with your workout to make you feel comfortable. Peter taught us exercises that we could do at home without using an equipment and also equipment base. He also taught us different stretches and how to massage ourselves without having a person assist. Ultimately, at the end of my session with Peter, I was able to gain more strength and got me started in a workout routine. If you don’t know where to start in your workout journey, this is the place to start!! Peter and Jaime will guide you through every step of the way!!!
Don’t forget to check-out their Recovery room services after your 1 on 1 workout with Peter or Jaime. After a full sweat, the recovery room is a perfect place, especially going in the Cold Plunge right after. My routine were shower first, cold plunge for 2 mins, sauna for 10min, cold plunge, and then red light. Purchase the bundle if you have too. On our last session we found out that they have Hot Mineral Bath, but didn’t get the chance to try that. But definitely will try that next time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! You will never regret, you come out of the place feeling rejuvenated and really good not only physically but...
