DXL Big + Tall — Local services in Hoover

I was in Birmingham in May of 2017 attending a conference across the street at the Hyatt Regency-Wynfrey, when the hubby and I decided to do some shopping. We had decided to go across the street to the DXL as hubby is a big and tall guy. When we got there, I entered the store first, as hubby had an injury so it was taking him a little longer. Immediately upon entering the store, the older, white lady at the cash register asked if I needed help. This was fine, but I told her I was just looking because I really did want to look around. Yes, we did have one specific thing we were looking for, but we were open to buying more if something caught the eye. Well, this lady kept following me around as if she didn't trust me to look on my own, asking what I was looking for. So I finally told her we were looking for some dress pants. I gave her the size and she immediately went and grabbed them so as to stop me from walking around the store. By this time, hubby had entered and was going to try on the pants, but wanted to look for shirts as well. So the lady went back to the register and the older white guy took up where she left off. As hubby and I were walking around the store, this guy kept offering me a seat. I advised him that I was going to help my husband pick out some things. This didn't seem to appease him as he kept re-directing me to the sitting area. We went ahead and picked out some things and paid for them, but vowed to never return to this store again. Good quality clothes, but DO NOT USE THEIR ALTERATIONS DEPARTMENT.

I had a bad experience and from what I could tell, I wasn't the only customer having issues with my alterations. The (alterations) lady running it was unorganized and couldn't remember the dates she told me for deadlines. I had to make multiple trips to the store because my clothes weren't ready.

I had to get an emergency alteration in another state because I was getting married and my suit was in terrible shape: The sleeves were different lengths and the crease on the pants was crooked. The alterations person I used has been in alterations over 30 years and said her work was sloppy and thrown together. She also said that Destination XL used glue to hem the pants. GLUE!

The pants hem had to be redone, as well as the crease in the pants, and one sleeve had to be fixed.

Then the seam of my pants split at my wedding reception. The split was right down the seam from my crotch to the seat of my pants. I just got the pants repaired, and again, shoddy alterations work on the part of Destination XL. The person that repaired the pants said there was only four stiches holding the seam.

THIS PLACE IS A MASSIVE SCAM. First visit ever there, took forever to get help because it specifically says to request an associate for footwear needs. I find a pair of rockports I’m not too keen on but they are comfortable. So I said screw it give me the black and brown. 130 a piece. I’m usually very good about researching stuff before I buy it but I figured, hey they are shoes they should be within 10-20 bucks of the competition and I’d rather buy local. Well I was VERY WRONG! They were selling their stuff above sticker price. You could order them directly from rockport for 10 dollars cheaper which is the MSRP. Then I get on amazon and Zappos and they are 89.87 per pair. So needless to say I immediately returned them and ordered them on amazon. Amazon also had a 22 dollar coupon for each pair. So I literally got both pair of the exact shoes for 140 DOLLARS LESS. I called customer service to try to resolve it before I returned them because I wanted to like the store because apparently they are one of the only places around that stock shoes over a size 13.
