The first time we got takeout (dining room closed) the food was memorable, completely delicious...but on our 2nd visit yesterday I was not at all impressed. I received skimpy lackluster portions, dry flavorless curry chicken - tasted like week old leftovers - with a bland yet grainy textured sauce, I left a good portion of it there on my plate, was not fit to take home ... Nothing was even hot, only lukewarm at best. Disappointing overcooked salty cabbage and dry crumbly corn bread. Husband enjoyed his jerk chicken (he received 3 pc to my 2 pc) but his 3 cheese mac & cheese was very lacking in the cheese department. We both loved our sweet 🍠 casserole. Sadly, even though they had resumed in house dining, I believe it was at a mere fraction of the restaurant's original square footage without actual table service...you ordered at the takeout counter and food brought to you, no refill on beverage offered. From pictures on their website, not at all the "much nicer" customer experience we had expected. I'm definitely not likely to recommend this establishment (I'd be embarrassed 😣)or ever attempt to dine here again. It was a wasted food experience for our day trip to B'ham area. Jakes soulfood, hmm🤔? They should change the name to Fakes soulfood. My 1st time going, i ordered the oxtail dinner. Me being a chef i knew what i received was 90 percent beef neckbones and 1 oxtail cut in half down the bone. I said that would give them another chance. 2nd time around🤔😠😡 i ordered the oxtail dinner again. The same senario. A total of 5 beef neckbones and an oxtail cut in half. Keep in mind how expensive oxtails are versus how cheap beef neckbones cost to purchase. Packs of oxtails cost on average $15 per pack and on the other hand beef neckbones average costs are $2 to $3 per package. So people are spending nearly $20 per plate for neckbones. Such...

I usually absolutely LOVE this place. Unfortunately, this time, the food was not up to its normal standards. We got the Curry Chicken. The chicken was dry. The Mac and Cheese was definitely old and flavorless. Chicken was also a little pink inside. Cornbread and rice & beans were good. I'm really disappointed because I know how great this place can be. Hope the standards will be put back the way...
