My sister's apartment had a leaking faucet in the bathroom. Possibly at the urging of my letter to the maintenance department directly, rather than to the unresponsive office personnel at both Maple Hill and Altman company...allegedly the Stephano Brothers, the new maintenance man FINALLY installed new faucets in BOTH the kitchen and the bathroom, after ten years of residing at MH...BOTH miracles in itself!
Upon my next visit to her apartment soon after, however, I found that many things underneath her sink were wet. I told my sister who reported it to the new maintenance man, who for now will remain nameless. You'll see why. He came back to inspect our findings, and declared the new bathroom faucet to be defective. But he hasn't replaced it since! This was over a month ago. How hard is it to do this, with cheap fixtures all around us? Plus he didn't replace the aging and prone to hard water drain. Word has it that the whole apartment community has needs...that my sister foolishly defends!
The a/c only helps the front room...the cool air needed in the KITCHEN, of all places, is mostly blocked by the narrow passageway to both it and the bathroom down the hall. The exhaurst fan there does not make much of a difference. God forbid a small ceiling fan be installed in those apartments, like they are in nearly ALL nearby apartments and homes! Since you are going to pay the electricity for the lighting there anyway, why not offer a ceiling fan option that would greatly help the situation? But Altmanco is old and out of touch with today's needs.
The site advertises free offstreet parking for all, yet nearly one third of the community has to use the public street behind the buildings. Most parking places are quite inconvenient, and out of sight from where most everyone lives. There's no security, and the police can't be bothered checking the lots. The laundry facilities are dungeons "fashioned" in the basements of each building, and the appliances quit or break regularly. There is almost NO upgrading or renovations each year in connection to the absurd rental raises. It's a wonder there is SOME regular trash and recycle collection, probbaly because local law requires it...not because it's a great idea! It's amazing that there is landscaping or snow removal at all. But rather than contract that work to outside services, the MH maintenance men have to do it...taking them away from the needed daily chores that should make up their work.
Hence the apartment's web site if FULL of lies and false advertising. It IS the cheapest apartment community around, mostly quiet, and conveniently located. But you don't even get what you pay for there! The buildings are TOO accessible to outside solicitors...and to insect infestations, and there are NO mail boxes placed by the local post office where private outgoing mail...

Ā Ā Ā Read morePlease whatever you do, DO NOT live here. I want to save you a headache and the pain of what you will go through. I lived there for a year and couldn't wait to get out. I had trouble with the water drainage, the temperature of the water was always cold, my heat went out in the middle of the winter, cockroaches and also I got a leak in the ceiling. The apartment is not built well enough so the heating and air conditioning you are using is not energy efficient and will cost you a lot each month. When my heat broke during the winter they didn't come out to fix it for two weeks. They did nothing to help and I had to go out an buy a heater to try and keep warm. The ladies in the office were not concerned and told me that there where so many other problems that needed to be fixed and I would have to wait. If I had a family I would have had to stay in a hotel for two weeks for there well being.
Its a SCAM to live here as well they will take some of your security deposit when you leave. They over charge you for the utility bill and will say you didn't return the key and take out money for that as well. It has been over 3 months since living there and I am still FIGHTING to get my security deposit money back.
It is extremely difficult to get a hold of the office by phone. They never pick up and could take days to get them to answer.
Please take this as a WARNING for your own good, do not live here there are better places in the area. Don't fall into the...
