2023 Update I had lunch at Iron Abbey again. The service was good even though it looked like they were understaffed for how busy lunch got. The waitress worked hard to get everything as fast as possible. The food was not great but good. I got the Shepherd's Pie and it was lacking salt. I truly believe if it had been seasoned well it would have tasted way better instead of bland. The beers were delicious as always so not a total disappointment.

2022 Update I had lunch at Iron Abbey today and what a different experience than last time. The menu still looks good. We had a variety of beers and food. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. I will say the pulled pork fries for an appetizer was good but small portion for the table. It came in what looked like an 8 inch cast iron skillet and is definitely sized for 1 person and for $12 that's a little pricy. The beer fridge upstairs is now 1/4 wines. I'm bumping my review back up to 4 stars.

Original Review I have been to Iron Abbey a few times and I would say every time has been 5 stars except for the other night. I was there with 3 friends on a Thursday night from 615 pm until 1015 pm. When I first got there it was only 2 of us so we wanted to sit at the bar. The bar was so packed there weren't 2 seats available which is not the fault of Iron Abbey. After sitting a table right away we ordered 2 beers. It took almost 10 minutes for a beer to come back and I was told my beer selection had kicked so I had to choose another one. Service at the table remained slow for beers the rest of the night ending with another beer selection of mine being unavailable after waiting 10 minutes to hear that it kicked. Now the food we ordered came out extremely fast and was hot but I felt everything was average and not as top tier as I felt it has been in the past. I ordered items listed as NEW on the menu. The brussel sprouts were charred but extremely raw and lacked salt. The chorizo in the brussel sprouts had no flavor which I couldn't believe and the portion was so small sharing was almost a joke. I also ordered the calamari which again had no flavor and the tomato side which I guess was supposed to be marinara was bland and chunky. I also ordered the wings which were delicious except for the fact that the Thai Chili was not spicy at all and overly sweet for my taste. I had some 2 nights later at another restaurant and they had the right balance of spicy and sweet. Finally my chicken Caesar salad was fine, nothing special just fine. I would say my visit was slightly disappointing because I've had great experiences here with food and service. I am hoping this was just an off night and I will be...

Went there for New Years and it was pretty dead, but I mostly went for food and drinks with my Fiance. A group of friends met us after we ate. The food was great, the service was great, drinks were great. My problem is that they conveniently labeled items as gluten free. I have celiac and absolutely cannot eat gluten, so I loved this. It was part of the reason I went here. At the begining of the order, I explained this to the waiter and he was very accommodating. I ordered pork chops, labeled gluten free and I had some minor issues, nothing to bad, I have a feeling there was some cross contamination because I did get sick before I left, but who knows. But my Fiance, she ordered the chicken with the cornbread, she can eat gluten, but this is labeled as gluten free. I've seen gluten free cornbread before so I was excited to try a piece of hers. When it came, it looked to good to be true, and from my experience I wouldn't try it. The waiter at this point already knew, he did great, so I asked him if the cornbread was gluten free as it is labeled in their menu as a gluten free meal. He went back and said the normal chef is not in today, he asked the backup who made them, and informed me they are not gluten free. I explained if I had ordered that and took a bite of anything because of cross contamination, I could have been very sick on new years. We left before midnight and went to another spot with our friends. So the review here, is not for the taste, the drinks, the waiter, the service, it's because at a bare minimum I expect a reasturant to label dietary restrictions correctly and know the food they serve. My fiance has managed, servered, bartended at reasturants before, I worked in a reasturant for years, I get the struggles with it, but this is unacceptable.

This experience makes me sad, since we've moved back to the area, I have been looking for a nice reasturant that is gluten friendly. I thought this may be it, I loved the service, bartenders, atmosphere, drinks, etc, menu with GF labels, but I just don't trust it. For anyone that does not have strict allergies or dietary restrictions I'd go here, but if you do, have restrictions, I'd look somewhere...

My husband, friend, and I went to this restaurant on Monday 5/9 for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, we were approached by a man who was verbally confrontational with us unexpectedly outside. We didn't think much of it and we continued into the restaurant. We were seated at a high top table around the bar and noticed the man enter back into the restaurant. We felt uncomfortable when he sat down at the bar right next to our table. Throughout our meal, we noticed he walked around the bar somewhat aggressively and hyperactively speaking to other patrons of the restaurant. Also going in and out of the restaurant in between often with his hood up. He was communicating with the kitchen staff as if he worked for the restaurant, though did not have any identifying uniform to indicate so. The behavior was odd, and made us very uncomfortable. We have been to the restaurant many times, and have never experienced this type of behavior. We were disappointed to feel so unsettled and notice others feel the same way while trying to enjoy their dinner.

Addendum 5/18: Managerial follow up communication with this establishment was fantastic. Upon speaking with the manager of the restaurant, I found out that the gentleman returned on 5/11 with similar behavior, leaving patrons uncomfortable. The manager with whom I spoke with (unfortunately not working on the night I visited) was working on this 5/11 occasion and asked the gentleman politely to leave. When he would not, the police were contacted and he is no longer permitted at the restaurant. Again, I am pleased with the follow up I received in regard to my concerns and am looking forward to returning to one of my favorite local...

Maybe it was just a one-time thing, but, upon arriving, it says complimentary Valet and of course we would tip, but being reminded upon arriving at a place for the first time that, "our valet service is 100% complimentary, but we only money off of tips" felt a bit like panhandling. He was a nice older gentleman and I get it, but, we were trying to celebrate getting our kids together for the first time in a while and were having a conversation together when he had to make that statement. Next, we walked in and were immediately struck by some kind of sewage odor. Maybe it was just a pipe issue, but, my wife and daughter were getting nauseous and wanted to leave right away, but decided to stick it out. The server was solid and polite and gave nice advice. However, try to put at least some Calamari in with (and I counted) 16 fried Jalapeno peppers. There were literally more peppers than calamari in our shared dish- it was awful and everything was so overly fried that it definitely wasn't worth the price. The drinks were fine, but the food was just ok.... My daughter order the gnocchi and hated it, but, thankfully her brother offered to switch from his Filet Sliders.. the server noticed and asked, but never offered to ease the situation by substituting or comping us in any way.. Overall- not a great place and likely won't be back-- we do have nearly 20M views on our Google reviews so we'll be pasting this review to that as well.. could be so much better!!!
