I have wanted to get a Japanese straightening perm/treatment for the last few years, but haven't because of the cost and because I wasn't sure who I could trust to do it. I had heard it usually costs around $700 and couldn't swallow spending that much. This year, for my 50th birthday, my family gave me the gift of a Japanese straightening perm! My daughter and I both did research by reading reviews of various Houston salons that offered it. I worried that the cost listed for 22 Salon meant that it wasn't good quality (because it's so much cheaper than $700+ that other salons ask for - I paid $350 for the perm AND a haircut at 22 Salon... so worth it!!!), but most of the reviewers were so happy with what they got that I decided to just go for it. I called on a Monday. They had an opening on Friday, so I booked it not knowing who the stylist would be. I got there at 10am and was done by 3pm (I have a LOT of hair). Rice did my straightening and she was very meticulous and patient. I have Restless Leg Syndrome and when that acted up halfway through, Rice was so kind and asked me if I needed a break. Even though it took a long time, she never hurried through any part of the process, which I really appreciated. It has been over 3 days since I got it done and I couldn't be happier with the results! I've spent years of blow drying and flat ironing my hair only to have the Houston humidity ruin it all in 2 seconds. This morning, I literally let my hair air dry and it is straighter and flatter than it has even been. All I did was comb through it after my shower and I was done. This is seriously life changing for me. I will always go to 22 Salon. It was busy the entire 5 hours I was there with so many stylists and they all definitely know what they are doing. I would trust any of them. I barely said three sentences to anyone the whole time I was there and that was totally fine. I had fun listening to and watching everything going on even though I can't speak Chinese. I am so happy I did this. Rice, thank you SO MUCH!!!!!
PHOTOS: The picture of me in the red hoodie is me at home several weeks before the treatment, with half my hair flat ironed and the other half only blow dried.
After that, there is me before, walking to the salon; me during (one side flat ironed, the other blow dried); me right after, completely shocked that this is what my hair looked like after only a blow dry and no flat ironing; and me this morning after letting my hair air dry for the first...
Read moreThe service here is great. I have done my hair around one week ago here with Rice and she is just AMAZING.
Before the actual appointment, we had an initial consultation and she was very professional and patiently asked about my need; what's more, she provided her professional aesthetic opinion regarding the best option for my hair in terms of fitting my entire style. After I made a decision about the final style, then she communicated with me really clear about the details for my hair style, including how long it takes, how much it cost and specifically how she will perform the haircut and hair curling.
When I arrived at the store the following day for the appointment, she was already waiting for me and had everything prepared. The entire appointment took more than 3 hours, and during this time, I was truly amazed by Rice's attitude toward details and her care for the customers. She constantly checked in with me asking if the temperature of the curler was too warm and adjust the curlers frequently to ensure the best outcome. Despite that our appointment was long and she had lots of downtime during certain steps, she never tried to multi-task other staff and she kept me accompanied the entire time to ensure I am comfortable with everything she is doing.
By the end of the appointment, the outcome was exactly the same as what I anticipated and the hair looks glowing. What impressed me the most is that after the final style was finished, she also spent a significant amount of time teaching me about the daily maintenance to ensure the hair curling can last as long as possible.
I have very limited experience with hair stylists before meeting Rice, but from the bottom of my heart, I think she is the best in terms of her professional hair styling skill, communication skill the extremely fair price she offered, and her genuine care for her customer. This was such a positive experience here at the salon with Rice and I really appreciate the great service she offered me. I would truly recommend 22 Hair Salon and Rice to anyone who is seeking best quality service and professional...
Read moreTLDR: my stylist was Leo and he’s great 5/5 stars :D Would definitely recommend going here, especially if you’re looking for hair stylists who can do trendy Korean/Chinese haircuts that you see on TikTok. Most of the hair stylists are young and up to date with the trends. They do walk-ins and take cash, credit card, and Zelle. The stylists here don’t speak much English but the guy at the front desk does and will happily translate when needed
This was my first time here (and first time in ten years to get a hair cut at a salon.). The guy at the desk was nice and immediately paired me with a stylist. The stylist didn’t speak much English but knew a few words. It’s best to have photos ready of what hair style you want. I decided to get the haircut spontaneously so I only searched up pics five minutes beforehand and didn’t realize the hair in the pics were slightly longer than my hair. So when I showed it to the stylist, he understood the style I was going for but then he found pics on his own phone of similar hair styles but about 2-3 inches shorter and I gave him the ok. Before he started cutting, he took a bit of my hair and showed me the length he was going to cut it at to make sure I was ok with it. He asked about three times, which I think is nice because we both get to confirm and reconfirm the length. He noticed my hair was really dry (I tried bleaching my hair at home and I messed it up so bad) and he asked if I wanted to do a dry treatment. I said yes and he informed me of the price ($85) and it was the best choice. My hair feels smoother, silkier and looks better. So glad he brought it up. I think he did a fabulous job and took his time to make sure it looked good. Throughout the haircut, he made sure to ask if the bangs looked good, which is nice because I had put a heavy emphasis on the way my bangs should look earlier. It turned out really good. The haircut cost $50 and the dry hair treatment cost $85 for a...
