I have been a member at Skyline CrossFit for about a year and a half. I had no experience with CrossFit before this gym, but had quite a bit of history with gyms, lifting, and working out in general. I had been "courting" CrossFit for many months before walking into Skyline, but was apprehensive in general. One day I drove by Skyline and walked in. It was the middle of the day and there were a handful of folks doing open gym. One of the members, who I later found out was also a coach, Lad, was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave me a quick tour. I decided to try it out and started the Foundations program. Foundations is for people like me who have no experience with CrossFit. I found it very helpful not only with movements and technique, but overall in becoming comfortable. Skyline has become an incredible home for me and the hype surrounding CrossFit is real. Skyline is a fantastic gym with exceptional coaching. The owner brothers, Dylan and Ryan, are great leaders, highly motivating, and also extremely down to earth, which lends itself to being mailable with all types and levels of athletes. Skyline hosts many great athletes, but at the same time, is home to all levels of athletes. If you are a seasoned athlete with a lot of experience, this is the gym for you. If you have never wrapped your hands around a barbell, this is also the gym for you. Skyline is a Houston treasure. If working out in a group gym environment brings you anxiety, this will be a fantastic spot for you as well as the members are excellent in welcoming and supporting new people. I have been working out here consistently and at 48, I am more fit, stronger, more flexible, and more confident than ever. I love this spot and...
Read moreCrossfit gyms aren't the same. As someone who travels frequently for work, I find myself in a variety of locations throughout the year. The coaches are different here. The athletes are different. The camaraderie is different. The culture is different. The grunts and moans are different. In this case different = excellent!
All differences aside, what I enjoy about this gym is consistency. Every coach is committed to your personal safety. Every coach is watching you, monitoring you, helping you, and pushing you to be your absolute best. If you think you're going to coast through a class, you are wrong!
Side note: if you're a coaster, why are you doing Crossfit anyway?
Back to the review.
The coaches here are exceptional!
There's a variety of coaching experience, styles, and certifications. There's even a level 3 coach (who is amazing) but I consider them all to be elite; the best of the best.
EVERYONE is welcomed! No exceptions. This includes age, race, gender, culture, socioeconomic status, physical fitness status, and ANY OTHER group or sub-group not listed. Seriously, come on! Whoever you are, you're welcomed here.
My favorite characteristic of this gym...there are no cliques! I've been to Crossfit gyms where this is a real thing. I didn't feel welcomed. I would try to talk to people but they just weren't interested. No engagement whatsoever. Probably because I don't look like a stereotypical Crossfitter. Anyhow, this isn't the case here. The athletes support each other and have no reservations about hootin' and hollerin' for ya. Cliques no, friends, yes.
This was a long review but well worth the time to write. Hope it...
Read moreI trained in CrossFit for almost two years before relocating to Houston about a year ago. After moving, I switched to traditional gyms, but honestly, I missed how CrossFit challenges me every day. Once I started working, I began researching the "best CrossFit gyms in Houston." I read a blog, checked out each gym's website, and visited the locations. The only gym that caught my attention was Skyline CrossFit for multiple reasons:
-All coaches are certified. -The quality of the equipment is excellent. -Classes are well-structured with warm-ups, workouts, and detailed explanations of each movement, including modifications for different skill levels. -They offer a free introduction, which is a must for me. This session helps determine if you should join the foundations plan, beginners, or group classes. I chose the beginners plan to ease into training in the USA, considering the different language and environment. However, I never felt overwhelmed – they are simply the best! As an introvert, it takes time for me to make friends, but everyone, even if they don't know you, is always cheering for you. That's what I love about the CrossFit community!
I've been training here for almost a month now and I can confidently say I've gained so much confidence and knowledge. Every coach is awesome! This place is indeed the best CrossFit gym in Houston. Take your free introduction – you won't regret it!
Big clap for the owners, Ryan and Dylan – these guys...
