My dad tried to warn me (and he has been in the construction business for 50 years!). He would say..."Menards is such a rip off. Any time i have bought something there I regretted it". Well I learned my lesson now. Menards is horrible.... horrible service, horrible management, horrible products!!
I purchased custom composite decking and what a nightmare. They charged me a special order fee for the way it needed to be packaged. THEN, while they were loading it (I was in the store buying some nails), they damaged it with out telling me and tried to hide it by "repackaging" it and taking the boards they damaged with the forklift, hiding them in the middle and packaging it again. When I came out I asked why they repackaged it....they said for added security...whatever, I went on my way. When I got to the site and unloaded, sure enough a bunch of damaged boards wrapped up in the middle so you couldn't see them until they were unloaded. Special order decking that I had to wait 3 weeks for!!! Then I had to bring them back only to have Randy (one manager) and some other dark haired "witchy" female manager tell me I needed to pay a "Restocking fee" to return the damaged boards. WHAT!!!! Are you kidding me...then I say, how about instead, you order me new boards and deliver them to the site, as it was an nightmare having to transport 18 ft decking only to find out you repackaged them "knowing' you had damaged them. (I reminded them they had plenty of cameras in the back yard). Randy's reply was well we will order you some new ones but I can't guarantee we'll deliver them. Let's order them first. My reply: NO you think I'm going to reorder, pay a restocking fee and then let you "think about" delivering them at NO CHARGE!! I wasn't planning on doing any of that.
Just goes to show you. I've noticed Home Depot, Lowes and Fleet Farm do it right in my experience. They aren't always the cheapest but always seem to get the customer service side of it.
Unbelievable. I truly hope they go out of business and if they keep up the horrible customer service, and horrible management....they will at least...
Read moreI have been in this store 3 times now and don't plan on going back for these reasons.
First trip I was looking for some items to build a sandbox and no one around to help me, I walk around for about 15min to find some guy cleaning the floor and he tells me all the wood is out in the yard. So I walk around the yard for another 15 min and have no clue where anything is or how much it cost. So back inside to try and search again and it was only when i had to walk to the front of the store to find someone they said i had to order wood at the desk.
2nd trip I needed to rent a rug doctor and its 24 hour rental, it was 4:15 when I was checking out and the lady said I needed it back by 4pm the next day. I explain to her that's not 24 hours and she said she is sorry but that all she can do in the system. So what ever it is what it is and the only reason I was asking was because I had to work till 3:30 and would be running tight on time. It took this lady 30min to check me out since she didn't know what to do.
3rd trip is the next day and my last trip to this store as I raced home to get this rug doctor that didn't clean my carpets well at all and bring it into the store at 3:59. Just made it. This lady then tells me that because there is hair on it they are charging me $20 cleaning fee. Like really never once did any one tell me they needed me to clean it when it was returned, it would have took me 5 min to wipe the hair off at home but since I was pushing the time it was going to charge me another day. This girl was rude to me and started saying it was on the contract I SIGNED. Well miss i didn't sign any contract other then your little window for credit card authorization and never once was told that it had to be cleaned when I return it.
What a waste of time at this place and I will continue to shop at home depot like I always do as there I can find employees that help with questions and don't make stuff up to charge...
Read more"The Man Mall!" I go in with a plan, and EVERY time, I find myself looking at stuff I wasn't even thinking about when I walked in. The prices are always right, and there's nearly always an 11% rebate to sweeten the deal. Helpful and knowledgeable staff is always a plus, too. UPDATE 9/2021: And then there was COVID-19. I kind of understood when they jacked up their prices on rubber gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, bleach, toilet paper and other items that nearly every other store ran out of every day. I understand supply and demand. I also believe in reasonable limitations, so when a bottle of generic bleach was priced above $10, I was more than disapproving. Lumber prices also climbed considerably, but I overlooked that knowing the prices didn't stay the same anywhere else, either. They were, however, considerably more expensive than other stores, even though they were carrying an inferior product. And of course, when everyone else's prices plummeted, Menards held steady at ridiculously high prices for lumber and wood products for as long as they possibly could. "But that 11%, Mike!!" Yeah, I like the 11% rebate. I don't like waiting 6 months for an in-store credit, though, especially when the 11% rebate doesn't bring the price down far enough to be comparable to their competitors. Not to mention, and maybe this is news to anyone reading this, if you Google "11% rebate Home Depot," the first or second hit is the spot on the Home Depot website where you can enter your receipt information and they will refund you 11% of your purchase on a gift card, which you will receive generally within 45 days. So, get better product quality, pay less at the register, AND get the 11% off to boot?? No brainer. Bye, Menards. It's been real and sometimes it's been fun, but it ain't...
