Southerlands is by far the best photography store I have ever been to. This includes the greats, B&H, any boutique store in Japan, anything.

The customer service is unparalleled. On most days, you can have your color film developed within the day. On other days, you can have it developed in a couple of hours. Once in a blue moon, it's already in the machine before you leave the door! B&W may take up to a week, but usually two days or so.

Their prices are incredibly fair, and they do a fantastic job. I printed a couple of prints with them for display in the Huntsville Museum of Art, and I fully believe the prints were museum quality.

They have a very wide selection of film cameras, a lesser selection of digital, but if you're looking for a film camera and a guarantee it works, this is your local shop.

I think it is very rare to find a store like this out there in the wild. It has been open at this point for 50+ years, and the charm probably hasn't changed a bit.

Southerland Photo is a great mom and pop shop. I just recently purchased a nice Nikon D200 with 65mm zoom from Unclaimed Baggage Store in Scottsboro. It came with a battery and charger but no CF Card. No one in town carries them on the shelf in case you're looking for some to start a kit. I called them and verified that they had various sizes in stock. After visiting the shop Mr Southerland and his wife were very helpful and actually sat up the camera for me after installing a new 32Gb Card and formatting it. Mrs Southerland also showed me her demo album or picture restoration projects that they do also. They can reproduce photos with missing pieces, lighting, tears, faded and other imperfections to new condition using the original. Also they sell new and used camera and support equipment at reasonable prices. If you own and camera whether a novice or a professional, this place is for you. One clueless GenZ blonde walks in to Sutherland's wanting "a film camera" and walks out with a Pentax K1000 and four rolls of film. I came armed with zero knowledge other than I enjoy taking photos on disposables with my friend while we go backpacking, but got frustrated that the cameras were finicky. The team at Sutherland's was so friendly, out-of-this-world knowledgeable, and patiently and eagerly answered any and all questions I fielded without being patronizing or giving off any air of annoyance. After considering several camera options and learning the basics of how they worked, I settled on the Pentax K1000, and then was given a crash course in how each button, switch, and dial worked, as well as the original manual and camera strap.
