Doc Films — Local services in Hyde Park Township

Doc Films is a great film resource on the South Side. Affiliated with University of Chicago, their programming is student-run and coincides with the academic calendar. They have movies every night during the school year and four nights a week during the summer, but be sure to check their calendar for special events. They sometimes coordinate with student groups to have special presentations and often bring movies to Chicago that don’t make it to any other theaters. I can't complain too much because I was at Doc Films at a free movie. The building had a very nice charm, lots of polished hardwood. A lot is stairs too. I saw a 3-hr movie and the chairs about halfway through, my tailbone hurt. The screen was large and from where I sat (very close to the door), I had an unobstructed view. While there seats were older, they still had a roomy feel to them. The bathrooms were on the lower level and we're modernized with self-flushing tickets and hands-free faucets. They were nice...
