The Chef's Survival Guide to Food at the University of Chicago (Part 1)

The Chef's Survival Guide to Food at the University of Chicago (Part 1)

CHEAP thai place for Uchicago visitors and students. Good options, food is tasty and large heavy portions. But some problems. For the curry dish, the rice was not a lot, and whilst the curry soup was very creamy and rich, the beef was okay at best, not tender, and very chewy! Plus $2.50 upcharge. Plus it was probably too rich as i had a big stomachache afterwards and had gastrointestinal problems afterwards. The drunken noodles were good and and curry noodles also, but not amazing. I ordered the curry noodles to go and it took ages for it to arrive. And they make you pay beforehand which is quite annoying. Service was decent, not the best and most friendly, depressing atmosphere, but overall good American-thai restaurant

I had the pad woo sen, Singapore noodles, and the curry puff. I personally don’t do good with menus that have a to many options so I ended up getting one for dine in and one to-go. The dine in portion was huge. So I really didn’t need the to-go. Both were as described. No complaints with anything not matching up. The curry puff did have much more “puff” than I expected. That’s a lot of crust! I ended up taking most of it off but what was left was flavorful and I’d order it again. Wouldn’t order the Singapore noodle again… the curry just didn’t do it for me. But the space is calm, clean, & inviting & staff were friendly so it was a good overall experience.

I’ve lived in Hyde park over 15 years. I have ate at Noodles Etc countless times and I have never experienced bad service until tonight.

I didn’t recognize the young asian american woman who was at the to-go station where you pick up your order that you call in (I know most of the staff) however this young woman was dismissive, rude and clearly knew nothing nor did she care about customer service.

I paid extra for peanut sauce for the chicken paid thai since the dish does not come with peanut sauce (no problem) typically the container I’ve received the peanut sauce in is bigger than what I received tonight. I asked calmly and nicely, “typically the to go container is bigger than this, is it possible to get more peanut sauce than this?” the young asian american woman snatched the peanut sauce out of my hand and said, “this is how it always comes!” I told her I’ve been eating Noodles Etc for yrs. & there have been many occasions I received a bigger container.

As she waved her hand in front of me and turned back to the computer she said, “I don’t know what to tell you, this is how it comes” and said, “NEXT IN LINE!

That is not how you address and resolve a paying customers issue. If she didn’t have time to address it she could have simply said, “Miss I’m happy to explain to you after I take care of this guest” but no, she had no regard and was extremely rude.

It’s a shame when employees don’t have customer service b/c it reflects so negatively on the restuaunt. Hopefully the GM or owner sees this and trains her on how to respect each customer she encounters.

I won’t be back to Noodles Etc... no way do I want to ever encounter that type of...

Rewriting since original review was hidden by the restaurant.

UPDATE: The "executive team" for the restaurant doesn't exist on Linkedin and their other social medias are clearly spam. They're NOT on the Michelin Guide as far as I can tell. I don't know what's going on here, but it stinks. Stay away.

TL;DR: Not worth the prices. There are better and cheaper Asian restaurants in the area.

I am a bartender and server, and out of respect for this restaurant I tried to email them my review, rather than posting a public review. However, the email on their website is no longer in service, so I will write this review instead.

We've eaten here multiple times over the last 6 months. The food is mediocre and inconsistent. If you get basics (soup, fried rice, etc) they can be pretty solid. However, I’ve twice had drunken noodles come without any seasoning. And no, not your typical “not enough salt” complaint, the dish literally came with noodles, vegetables, meat, and oil, that’s it. Even when it does have seasoning, it’s nothing special.

Prices have also increased 25% out of nowhere! A $40 dinner for two has turned into $50 for the exact same order. Bottom line, the food is not worth the price. They probably think they can get away with it being in HP, but regular people...

The one star review is because the restaurant charged me twice. When I placed my order, I was charged. Then after I finished eating, they said that the charge didn't go through. However, I pointed out that my Google Pay indicated that the first charge DID go through. They said that the charge didn't go through so I needed to pay which I did because they said if I was charged twice to simply call them and they would refund one of the charges.

Of course I was correct and I WAS charged twice. So, I called them and reminded them of the incident. They said that they would look into it and get back to. I called them AGAIN the next day since they NEVER called me back. The person I spoke with said that I should dispute it with my credit card company.

So, after promising to reverse the charge when I told them in person that they charged me twice and after never calling me back or taking care of the double charge, I disputed it with my credit card company.

Sadly, this place is unreliable and dishonest for a business. Don't trust them. I also suggest triple checking your bill because they will likely try to sneak something extra into the bill hoping you won't notice. It's sad that a business...
