Afrah Event Center — Local services in Independence

The venue was ok however afterwards the owner tried stating we had ink on the wall almost a week after the event. She didn't show up to inspect the place nor give our deposit back. We sent pictures of the place and she said it was fine. Then came back stating the next group complained and they had to scrub it off. When we referenced the picture given she stated she went back and looked at video and there was a kid playing with a balloon so she thinks when it busted it took icing from a nearby cake and hit the wall. $50 to wipe of icing that is not shown in pictures sounds like a scam. When my mother-in-law told her she was displeased with her process she hung up on her. I wouldn't recommend renting from here when there are other more honest venues to rent from. Still waiting for our deposit back as we speak (it's Thursday and the even was last Saturday). Pictures are what was sent to her that she approved as clean and good. Ink/icing is supposed to be on the wall of the first picture…where? 🤷🏽‍♀️

UPDATE: Sara has blocked me and apparently instead of taking feedback she blocks others from seeing situations like this to improve her place. We had to buy hand soap for our party to wash their hands but she’s focused on fake spots on the wall smh...

If I could leave no stars I would. This was the most unprofessional experience I've had. I originally contacted them for my moms 50th surprise brunch they were to pricey for they amount of hours I was looking for. The wife or co owner called me days later offering a special. There was no special my deposit was kept the room was not set up nor did it have tables out prior. They kept everything in a storage room it doesn't not specify what is apart of YOUR package. Basically a free for all. It gives help your self. The rudely came into my moms brunch while we were cleaning upset that we were 5 mins over time the women said it was fine. 3 mins later she is arguing with my family. Was told my deposit would be refunded the next day just to find out I'm blocked. I will be suing this company I absolutely would NOT recommend them. The hours that they want you to pay for the space is ridiculous. It's a scam saying they giving you one price and keep asking for more money. DO...

I live across the street from the Center. I have been battling the loud music as it has been disturbing the peace since it has been opened. I have called numerous times to ask them to tune it down. They sometimes would comply but lately no can do. I called the Police once and they said they talked to the owners and the compromise would be the owner would close the doors to the Center. It worked for a couple of weeks. Now I am currently again listening to music so loud it makes my house vibrate. My next step is to start a petition. I seriously doubt I am the only neighbor extremely annoyed by this...FRUSTRATED & CANNOT SLEEP IN...
