Unique family fun ideas for December around Kansas City! SAVE this for adventures throughout the month and when the kids are home over winter break. ✨ Christmas lights strolls: What’s better than enjoying a hot cocoa, walking in the crisp winter air with family and friends and enjoying beautiful Christmas lights? šŸ“Our favorite free walk-through light displays are Country Club Plaza Lights @countryclubplaza, Sar Ko Aglow @cityoflenexa, Magic Tree Lee’s Summit (photo op quick stop) and Charles Garney Park near Briarcliff. Walking light events with an admission fee we love are Luminary Walk at @oparboretum, GloWild at the Kansas City Zoo @kansascityzoo and Powell Gardens, Evergy’s Festival of Lights @powellgardens. 🌲George Owens Christmas Hike: Enjoy the kickoff event December 6th from 5-7 p.m. Stroll through the nature trail lit by torches and enjoy an outdoor winter evening with live raptors and ice sculptures. After this event, through January, you can stroll the 1-mile paved loop. Kids will love seeing the wooden ā€œuglyā€ sweaters in scavenger hunt style along the trail. šŸ“George Owens Nature Park 1601 S. Speck Rd., Independence, Missouri 64057 ā˜®ļø Peace Pavilion: This unique, interactive children’s museum features hands-on learning for kids with a focus on peace building. Open Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ages 3 and older are $7. Children under age 2 are free. šŸ“607 W. Lexington, Independence, MO, United States, Missouri šŸŽ„Toys Under the Tree: The perfect FREE spot to burn kiddo energy - Crown Center Square. That is the official name of the area with climbable toys and trucks that my kids call Crown Center ā€œparkourā€. šŸ“Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108 šŸ¦™Yaya’s Alpaca Farm: Pet, feed and sometimes even snuggle with the darling alpacas amidst Christmas lights and fun holiday photo ops. Make sure to book your reservation online in advance and click Christmas Event on their homepage for the evening time slots. šŸ“30200 E 275th St, Garden City, MO 64747 Which will you add to your holiday bucket list? #visitkc #kcevents #kansascityevents #thingstodoinkc #christmasfun #kcchristmas #kansascity #familytradition

This is a unique place. There is lots of conflict resolution and calmness promotion. There are some science and geography exhibits amongst lots of information encouraging cooperation and peace. The most popular activity for our child was the laser maze. You can tell a lot of work went into this place and they care about it a lot. One thing I noticed that's different from larger children's attractions is that everything functioned the way it was supposed to. They walk around and reset or tidy up constantly. If you think something isn't working, they'll be right there to assist you. They have a toddler room and a nursing area with changing table available too.

Where kindness meets playtime! The Peace Pavilion is hands-down one of the coolest places I’ve taken my toddler! Every station is interactive, colorful, and teaches kids about kindness, empathy, and peace in a way that feels like pure fun. My little one didn’t want to leave — and honestly, neither did I! It’s clean, safe, and so thoughtfully designed for curious little minds. If you want an indoor play spot that’s more than just slides and toys, this is the place. 10/10 recommend!

We went for the open house and visited one Saturday after that. We would go a lot more often with our two toddlers if they didn't charge for adults. We can't afford paying $28 for our family each time. We definitely felt like the whole experience was geared more towards children (5-12), and most places we go to entertain our kids do not charge for adults because we're basically just babysitting them. Great effort was made to put the museum together with really nice people and we realize it's a non-for-profit, but we also felt like we didn't get a lot of freedom to explore during our visit. There was a lot of hovering and workers following us around. Just based on the cost and the "helicopter vibes", we will probably be finding a different place to take...

So excited this place is open again and the building was great! We went on a Thursday morning we were the only ones there. It is completely different rooms currently 4 but they said they are working on a toddler room. My girls are 3 and 1 they enjoyed each room but favorites we're the boat and the recycling truck. Would definitely suggest if you have sensory issues it was quiet and like I said there's 4 completely separate rooms so if for some reason you were having problems in one room you try a different one instead of having to leave been there lol anyways would be a great place for you either way you'll...
