Over the years I have visited the Truman Home and Museum/Library many times. It is always a very rewarding visit. As David McCullough says is his biography, TRUMAN, we are reminded by HST what kind of person the president should be. When he left office in 1953, he said he was being promoted. Visiting the grounds of the house at 219 N. Delaware on Monday, May 8, 2023 (house was closed as it was Monday), the house itself was beautifully maintained but the bushes were untrimmed, the grass was uncut and full of weeds and the area all along the fence was full of trash and dead leaves. Historians regularly rate President Truman as one of the best presidents in U.S. history. He deserves better than to have his home’s grounds neglected. Immediately, I went to the Main Street Visitor Center to express concern. The VC was closed but a Ranger was there and told me “we have a staff shortage”! The National Park Service needs...

For ease of planning, I recommend stopping by the visitors office to pick up the tickets first thing in the morning and trying to get the first two of the morning. If you're not able to get tickets until the afternoon, you can drive up the road 5 minutes to the Truman Library and then make your way back down to the house in time for your tour.
