Beware renting Unit 506 - Susan and Vic Boettle Please let me begin by saying that my wife and I are frequent users of HomeAway, VRBO, and airbnb. We have always been rated most highly as guests and have up until now never had a bad experience with a booking, nor made a negative review.

We became interested in HomeAway #302743 (Beach Cottage/Palms Condos) when we noticed their booking for the week of the 4th of July 2018. We were very interested in this unit that was advertised for $200 per night including taxes and fees, and sleeping 6.

Normally we book and pay directly through the HomeAway site, but this unit did not offer on-line booking and payment. We were instead told by phone that we would have to mail a registration deposit of $300 before the unit could be reserved. At that time, the owner Susan Boettle told us that we would have to pay an additional $100 for a child (guest #5) to stay, and that the total would be $1500.

Upon receipt of our deposit, we were mailed a booking agreement with a total cost of $1908. We were not happy with the $408 increased cost over what was agreed upon, but we were still ok with paying this amount.

Approximately 1 week later my wife was diagnosed with a medical condition requiring surgery that prevented us from staying during our reserved week. When we called to regrettably cancel our booking, we were advised that the deposit was not refundable under any circumstances.

It should be noted that when we spoke with the owner by phone when securing our booking, we were told that they had at least 15 other parties interested in booking this week, so there was little or no chance that the owners would experience any financial loss from our cancellation and in fact the listing was later listed as no longer available, indicating that it was rented.

I followed up our phone conversation concerning our cancellation and request for deposit refund with an email to the owner asking again that our deposit be returned should the unit be rented and no financial loss incurred by the owner. I received no response. I also submitted this complaint to HomeAway who forwarded it to the owner who did not reply to it or subsequent emails from me.

My complaint is 3 fold. First, we were only notified of the total cost after providing a non-refundable deposit. Secondly, we were charged additionally for a fifth guest when it is advertised for six. Another $408 charge was also added over what was agreed upon and listed (including taxes and fees). Lastly, there was no consideration given to our legitimate medical necessity for having to cancel and the fact that they have since undoubtedly replaced our booking (and deposit) with...

I recently stayed at this fantastic property in Clearwater, Florida and couldn't have been more pleased with my experience. The oceanfront view was absolutely breathtaking, offering a stunning backdrop for our vacation. The accommodations were exceptional, featuring a spacious 2-bedroom layout that comfortably housed up to 6 people. The living conditions were top-notch, providing everything a family could need for a perfect getaway. From well-equipped kitchens to cozy living areas, no detail was overlooked. One of the standout features was the property's proximity to the beach. Just a one-minute walk, and we were right on the sand! It was ideal for lazy days soaking up the sun, taking refreshing dips in the ocean, and enjoying the coastal atmosphere. While we didn't use it, there's also a swimming pool available for guests. The service was outstanding. Cleanliness was impeccable throughout the property, which added to our overall satisfaction. If I had to mention one minor drawback, it would be the parking situation. The spaces were a bit tight and cramped, but it wasn't a significant issue given all the other positives. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my stay. went there for 4th of july week and the security and property owner were the rudest most arrogant people i’ve ever met. this is not a good place for anyone from the ages of 14-25. they don’t like kids and will accuse you of causing a disturbance or doing something wrong. property owner told me we had a warning against us already but when i asked multiple times he never told me what for. he threatened to evict us when all we were doing was walking back from the beach with friends. he accused me and my friends saying that we didn’t actually stay or rent a place there when we obviously did. he got into my friends face who is a 17 year old girl and was yelling at her, then told her mom she has an “attitude problem and she’s entitled”. dont stay here if you are young. i’m never going near this place again. respect goes both ways. we never violated any of...
