I wanted a "custom look" that would fit in my bedroom, which I wanted to convert into a 80% home office, 20% guest bedroom. I did online research and also found a couple of local retail stores, all of whom sold quality stuff. But Bedder Way had the combination of real wood quality and customization and finishing options that I wanted.
I took a chance to design myself (with the help of Jason, Bedder Way's sales manager and designer). It took a while, but their catalog shows all of the case good options, the finishes and styles, and office (workstation options) and I was able to design something that worked perfectly for my space. I wanted a "built-in" look and in the end it looks and feels like a totally custom job.
The quality of the furniture and finish work is outstanding. I was able to assemble the murphy bed myself - while I'm relatively handy, I wasn't sure how it would be, but the instructions and the quality of the parts made it very doable. I did have a contractor do the overall install - hanging cabinets, securing the desktop and the bed to the wall, cutting the molding, etc.
I did take a risk in ordering online and shipping (they are in Indianapolis, I am in California), and unfortunately the face of the bed was damaged in shipment. But they handled that well too; they re-made the piece, shipped it out with "white glove" delivery in 3 weeks, and all is good. They were responsive and made things right, no questions asked.
All in all, a well deserved 5...
Read moreThe maple Murphy Bed I received was designed well. However the finish on the front face is disappointing. Unlike the side faces that show the grain of the wood, the front face looks more like an opaque paint than stained wood. I have several dark stained pieces of maple furniture in my house and each one shows the beauty of the wood grain, but that is not the case with the front of my Bedder Way Murphy Bed. If I saw this bed in a retail store I would not have bought it. I sent photos to Bedder Way and they stated the piece meets their quality standards.
Also, be aware of the incredibly strong outgassing of finish fumes. I opened the boxes in early October and spread out the pieces in my garage with ventilation for weeks in an attempt to reduce the odor. It helped a bit but I had to get the bed assembled and ready for guests to use for Thanksgiving. However, despite many days of further ventilation in the room, the bed still stunk too much to use for Thanksgiving. Now in March the odor is much better but not gone. Guests have to sleep with their heads where you would normally have your feet so you aren’t subjected to the higher concentration of fumes by the headboard and upright sides.
Lastly there were several holes I had to drill myself during assembly that should have been done in...
Read moreVery disappointed in the delivery and “installation” part of this process. I read the website cover to cover and read only that there was no need to hire someone to install. That two people with simple household tools could install the bed. I assumed that meant that the bed would come assembled and we would put it together and install it on the wall. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The two end pieces came assembled but the main Murphy bed was in pieces (see pictures). This to me is not installation but building the bed. I would expect paying $7800 that I would not be building the bed myself. In addition, the delivery guy refused to help my husband move the four incredibly heavy boxes into the garage since it was raining. He would even cut the ties and help him get the boxes off the pallet. I really am upset with this whole process and misleading website directions. Lucky our lawn guys were here or the entire wood bed would have been left out in the rain until we could have hired someone to bring it in the house. The bed is made of solid wood which is nice however if I had known the lack of help I would have keep looking for an option that delivered and set up the bed, especially...
