Do not take your pet to Good Dog Hotel and Spa for boarding or day care. My dog was not provided water or adequately monitored and then needed to go to the vet because she had an infection, a fever, and could not walk. The total bill for the vet was $371. My dog should have had doggy day care on both days of her stay and is promised to be let out 4 times a day. With these services my dogâs injury should have been noticed by a staff member. I tried to call to resolve this issue with a manager and the only time I got ahold of her she asked permission to call my vet and now will not return my phone calls. When I had talked to the manager about my concerns, she lied multiple times about my conversations with staff when dropping my dog off or picking her up to take blame away from where blame is due- the lack of monitoring that occurs while your pet is in their care.
This is what happened: when my dog was handed back to us we were told she had been snoozing in her suite and we sat down in the lobby to wait for the self-service bath. When we got her, she immediately drank the entire container of water in the lobby and my fiancĂ© made mention of when she had water last. I noticed her front paws were red and asked the woman working behind the counter and she said she didnât know what happened and there were no notes in her chart about it. She went and asked the person working in the suite area and they also hadnât noticed but said sometimes dogs chew their paws when bored or anxious. Again, with the day care and walks she was promised someone should have noticed my dog was injured. After getting home she drank another entire bowl of water and ate more than two cups of food immediately like she was starving and then laid down.
When it was time for her to go out before bed my dog would not get up. I stood her up and she screamed in pain and laid back down. My fiancĂ© asked what had happened and we tried to get her up a second time and again she howled but stood up shaking. Then I noticed she wasnât putting any pressure on one of her front paws and was trying really hard to not put any on her other front paw. The next morning, she still would not stand up and was very lethargic. We could coax her into taking a few steps, but she would stop to lick her paws and lay back down immediately. I went to the store and got her some paw soother to see if that helped her feel any better and left a message at Good Dog to call me back. At this point I unpacked her bag from Good Dog and saw that 3/4 of the chews I had provided them to alleviate her boredom were still in her bag. The soother seemed to help her feel a little better but the next morning she was not standing up again so I called her vet and they said she could come in as a drop off. I also called Good Dog who didnât have a manager on duty. Before speaking to the manager my vet got back to me and said Kira had an infection in her paws, a fever and was abnormally lethargic. The manager had no explanation for why my dog was so thirsty or why I still had her chews. Then she said she had been in the lobby at our pick-up and she knew THEY had told us about her paws. As I stated earlier, they had NO idea there was something wrong with her. This led me to asking if she had gotten play time and her four potty breaks why no one would have noticed. The manager responded she had just come from play time when I picked her up, and again this was a lie that I refuted because I had been told she was snoozing in her suite when I got there. Then this woman tried to tell me I had informed them at her drop off that this was a problem my dog normally had which is absolutely not true. My dog has never done this before, and she asked to call my vet to confirm this. I gave her permission and she never called. Iâve called Good Dog two more times and the manager will not respond- they know they are in the wrong and do not want to take responsibility. If you want your pet to be monitored and cared for do not take them...
Read moreYou know I've been bringing my dog here for over 8 years. Always had a supremely good service I never worried about my dog's safety or anything else. But something has changed I don't know what but I called yesterday to book my dog Two stays in the coming months. Unfortunately I could not get through the line I thought something was wrong when I first did get through the line I got a young lady who I could not hear her she would not speak up very loud and I kept asking her to repeat and I kept asking you talk to the manager now the manager I do know and have spoke to several times and we've always had very good luck with bringing our dog there. Over the years I sent a lot of business. I was not rude to this young lady but I did tell her I couldn't understand things she was saying and I asked her to get me the manager. Most of the girls that have been there while know us and know the dog. I asked repeatedly to have the manager on the phone could not or she would not do it. She said she'd have the manager call me back unfortunately she called one time when I had to be in a meeting I couldn't answer the phone she left no message. When I tried to return her call they kept hanging up on me. So the next day I tried again to reach her as I need to book these days. And find out what the deal is with this girl why she keeps hanging up on me. Now bear in mind I was not rude I've never cussed a woman I never said anything inappropriate I just told her I couldn't hear a thing she was saying and it was trying to find somebody to come on the phone to help me that talk louder and I could understand. After 20 years in the fire service you lose some hearing and there's not much you can do about it. I was telling the lady I need to talk to the manager but she just hung up on me. Apparently the discriminate on people older people because they're physical handicaps when I can't hear and I asked to talk to someone different I was immediately tagged rude. So when I call back the second time the lady told me that they will not do business with me because I am too rude.. my wife had called the day before she's a disabled veteran and she couldn't hear the lady well either and asked to talk to someone different they hung up on her too. So if this is the way that good dog does and treats their veterans and first responders I wouldn't recommend you bringing any animal here for any reason. They used to be really good and it was a guy that owned it I don't know if he still owns it or not I don't know if they've sold out and changed owners but they're not the same place they used to be. I was never ever allowed to speak with the manager like I said the last woman that I called told me I was rude and hung up the phone I have not been rude on any of the conversations I am highly offended and again I can't trust the safety of my pet to these folks I suggest that you consider that deeply too I don't like people who don't work with people who have physical disabilities and they were quick not to. I would try a different kennel. The other thing I noticed is when you look through these reviews the only ones they answer are the ones that...
Read moreThe Good Dog Hotel is sort of a misnomer. I have a very naughty-to-the-point-of-being-BAD young Irish Terrier(ist). So it was with no small amount of trepidation that after I brought Dennis home 18 months ago, I wondered who'd keep him when I'm gone.
I've been using the GDH&S since about 2006, first with a really nice, well-behaved Wire Fox Terrier, and then as an observer of the way a very particular friend sang the praises of GDH&S and its care of his Standard Poodle.
The GDH&S is convenient (for me at any rate), reasonably priced, run by people who obviously like their jobs and their furry customers.
Dennis likes to play. He would play 24/7 if I could find a place and a dog willing to put up with him. He doesn't let ANYTHING get in the way of his inbred prime directives: Chase other dogs, squirrels, birds, sticks, and above all: run and PLAY.
He sounds like a Panzer Tank Battalion when he senses a pack of other dogs around -- say, at the dog parks or on extended fair weather walks. I'm working on that most disagreeable trait.
But once at the GDH&S Dennis had to go to the penalty box (probably back to his own kennel) for wanting too much playtime.
That said, it's a testament to the staff's professionalism that they don't run screaming when they hear him coming. He loves it there. Once out of the car and inside, he greets Tiki, and then he's forgotten me and searching for ways to play.
He's pretty much disappointed when I come back to pick him up -- no matter the length of stay. He could care less that he hasn't seen me; he still wants to play with his friends.
I'm appreciative of the GDH&S's basic requirement about immunizations; I like the friendly manner they use to greet me on the phone; I think it's great that they don't care if I call to check on him. They don't mind taking you "backstage" so you can see where your dog will be staying.
From that initial tour, I decided that the facility was far cleaner than most and that's a really big plus as far as I'm concerned.
And did I mention the pricing? It's as reasonable as any doggy day care facility in the city.
I've given the GDH&S five stars -- they've earned every single one of them. We're going there day after tomorrow. Or, rather, HE gets to luxuriate for a few days and end his stay with a bath.
I have a 12 hour drive ahead of me and lots of work when I get there. I should be so...
