If you're looking for somewhere to have dinner and have zero expectations, this place would be okay.
If you're looking for a "hidden gem" and a "meal that's the closest you'll get to being in Italy" this is not the place for you.
Our waitress was nice and seemed to be covering several areas.
We took advantage of the Devour menu (paying extra for the wine) and were disappointed with each course; wishfully thinking each course would get better.
I ordered an Aperol spritz; which is my favorite apéritif for an italian dinner. The bartenders portions were off and the champagne was entirely too prominent and the color/taste was wrong.
We chose the Chianti wine and it was the only pleasant constant throughout our meal.
Our first course was Caprino (baked goat cheese, pomodoro sauce, grilled Italian bread).
We love goat cheese and were excited for our appetizer. Sadly, there was enough goat cheese for one bite and the rest was the pomodoro sauce. The grilled bread had been burned on the end which made for a not so pleasant taste.
Our second course, we both opted for the Rucola salad (fresh arugula tossed with shaved parmesan, red onion, lemon vinaigrette).
Our waitress was juggling multiple things at one time and keeping a smile and pleasant attitude while doing so. However, her hands were so full that my salad plate was resting up at the top of her arm between her upper arm and armpit. She had a sleeveless shirt on and needed me to reach up and take my salad as her hands were full. To say this was unappetizing was an incredible understatement. I ate from the side of my plate that had not been resting against her and did not finish it. The dressing left much to be desired and the parmesan had an off taste to it.
For our third course we had each chosen a different main. When we inquired what was recommended, we were told that the pizza was the closest you could get to Italian pizza and that this establishment was a hidden gem. As I have recently returned from Europe and visited Italy multiple times, I was excited to finally find something to transport me back to Italy. Perhaps our waitress was referencing Italy, Texas and NOT the country as the pizza did not reflect the expectations that come with being true italian pizza.
I ordered the Genovese pizza (pesto, fresh mozzarella, grilled chicken, sun-dried tomato, caramelized onion). The crust was too doughy and the toppings were lacking in both quantity and flavor. The onions seemed to be cooked but were not caramelized.
My friend ordered the Tricolore Pappardelle (fresh housemade pasta and basil pesto, mozzarella pearls, kalamata olives, tomato, basil) and paid the upcharge of $3 for it to be made gluten free. While the basil was plentiful throughout her dish, it was hard to distinguish anything besides the basil and the kalamata olives (which were left hole). The proportions of the ingredients were strange as there were 3 baby tomatoes throughout the dish but multiple olives (which did not compliment the dish at all). The pasta was not fully cooked and the sauce was just sitting on top rather than being incorporated into the dish as one might expect with a house made pasta.
We were hopeful that a decent dessert would salvage the evening and justify us choosing to frequent this restaurant for our Devour experience. The Tiramisu lacked the espresso flavor one expects and was still slightly frozen in the middle. The espresso cocktails were an interesting experience as it tasted as though a cold brew coffee had been used, there was no foam and it seemed to have curdled on the top.
To say we were disappointed and frustrated would be an understatement. This is not a restaurant that I would consider a hidden gem or would consider visiting again.
I can only assume that for the locals, it's a decent reprieve from some of the other...

Is diavola pepperoni?
Pizza alla Diavola», or devil's pizza, is the Italian name for the popular Pepperoni pizza — maybe because originally this pizza was really-really hot. The spicy Italian salami called 'pepperoni', accompanied by tomato sauce and mozzarella, is what gives this pizza its strong, piquant flavor.

pizza healthy to eat? And it isn't healthy. Depending on the type of crust, the amount of cheese and the toppings used, pizza can rank anywhere from nutritionally decent to a diet disaster. Even healthy pizzas deliver a good amount of sodium from tomato sauce and cheese, so if you are watching your salt intake, you should eat with caution.

Read moreI wanted to like this place but the overall experience was not great. We were at the restaurant for over an hour and a half and only ordered 3 things. For the appetizer we ordered the goat cheese app. For $13, it was just a dish of red sauce with a small amount of goat cheese sprinkled on top. Barely any goat cheese on it at all. There was also not enough bread. While we were waiting on our pizza, the server asked if we wanted more bread while waiting. I felt bad for her because she was stressed and kept apologizing. It took 20 minutes for 3 more pieces of bread to be brought out and they weren't even warmed and were old. We were so hungry at this point though still waiting on the pizza. The pizza finally came out over a hour after ordering. The pizza had literal raw dough in it after waiting forever for it come to the table. They only had one person making the pizzas so it's understandable why it took long. The pizza itself looked like it had been prepared in a rush, as the ingredients were not evenly distributed and there was one piece of the pizza that was plain crust with no sauce or toppings on it. We had to manually spread the ingredients over the pizza ourselves. Not what I would expect for a pizza that was $23. I had wanted to order dessert but didn't want to wait even longer after the experience so...
