Calypso Apartments and Lofts — Local services in Irvine

I never leave reviews for anything or anywhere, but for this place, I have to. My husband and I have lived at this apartment complex for four years. And to be honest, we LOVED our apartment. The particular one we were housed in was incredibly peaceful and quiet, with good neighbors and minimal foot traffic. We also required very little maintenance help for the apartment, except on occasions where our water heater stopped working, needed new lightbulbs, etc etc. The maintenance team always fixed the issues and were on top of it. These are the reasons why I'm leaving a 2 star review.

However, having said that, the front office is AWFUL. Whenever we called for questions that were not maintenance related, we could NEVER get a hold of the front office team for basic things. Not only that, there was hardly anyone ever there during their supposed "working hours". The sign that shows "What time they'll be back" was always hanging on the front door. I remember the first day we moved into here, we didn't have the keys to our apartment yet and we had our moving truck/company with us and we tried calling repeatedly and waited a full 45 minutes for someone to come into the office and finally hand us the keys so we could start moving. I guess that should've been the very first indicator how difficult it would be to get a hold of someone there.

Another incident that happened probably about a year and half of living there, for my job, there are some days I have to wake up incredibly early. One of those days, as I'm leaving from my apartment and walking to the parking garage through the stairwell around 4:30am, I run into a person fully sleeping inside the stairwell in their sleeping bag. Had no idea I was even there and he was blocking the door I needed to get through. Mind you, again it's super early in the morning and there's no other people around. I'm a small 5' 2" woman. Later that day, I tell my husband about it and he calls the front office (shocked they even answered/picked up for once) and tells them this. They had the audacity to simply respond with, "You can call the police for this." ??!?!? Excuse me!? Why the heck are you allowing anyone to just mosey into the apartment complex and sleep there? We're simply calling to let you know, hey, think one of your entrance doors are busted so maybe you should get that fixed so this doesn't happen again? Maybe that's why the apartment complex has slowly declined in their standards of cleanliness because they let anyone in to just leave trash every where.

Last point I'll make -- My husband and I finally move out of his place and we're expecting our security deposit back. Couple of weeks goes by and we don't hear anything from them. We've called them and every time, they say, "Oh, strange. Let me look into this for you and give you a call back." NEVER GET A CALL BACK. When they say they'll call you back, they absolutely won't. It's your responsibility to follow up with them. They did this to us several times now and still have not received our security deposit back except for a "we'll call you back." It's so ridiculous.

The front office also says it's open from 10am - 6pm and closed Saturday and Sunday... Which is another layer of making it incredibly difficult to go in person to their office for anything when you're a standard 9-5pm worker like everyone else.

While living there, we reached a point where there was seriously no point in reaching out to the front office for anything and bit the bullet for so many things. And the fact they charge that much for rent for such mediocre help and a messy, trashed apartment complex is hilarious.

Live here at your own discretion and if you're totally fine with not getting any help from the...

Checked this place today and was quite disappointed :/

The complex is not as new and well maintained as it is on the photos. Maybe it was like that some time ago, but not anymore, you will be somewhat disappointed when actually coming there. The location is good but also very noisy because of proximity to Jamboree, be ready for that. I was also surprised that the only apartment they allowed me to check was completely different from the photos. Very strange leopard color countertop and strange-colored wooden kitchen shelves, not new at all. Also, mirror in the bathroom was rusty and shaky. Giving 3 stars for the complex itself

The service was even worse. The girl at reception was not welcoming at all. I wish she gave me at least some info about the complex in addition to drawing direction on the map and saying "go right, elevator, 4th floor". I was looking for bigger 1 bedroom apartment, ideally with loft, but she only gave me keys of a simple one bedroom, somehow assuming it is the only option for me. After I mentioned that I saw other options on the website, she agreed to give me another keys. Also, refused the possibility to check both apartments, ridiculous! I am going to live there at least 12 months, I can check my options at least! Giving 2 stars for the service

Anyways, there are plenty of other options around, I feel that price/quality is definitely not...

Calypso is truly great. The units and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The amenities are amazing and the gym is superb! The front office staff are very helpful and quick to respond to anything and maintenance is always on top of anything. There is ALWAYS parking. Since it's a structure and there are elevators in this complex even if you have to park towards the top (which after like 9 or 10pm you might) it's still no biggy since it's so quick and centralized in the complex. We can't hear our neighbors through the walls, but our neighbors upstairs, I swear they stomp through their apartment, but that's not the apartment's fault let alone enough to really bother me. The complex holds events at the clubhouse, which is really nice to be able to get out and meet some neighbors. The only downside is the $25 a month fee for Valet Trash. I don't need someone to pick up my trash at my door for $25 a month, I can walk it to the trash chute. Aside from that I'd still give it 5 stars, this place rules. My boyfriend...
