Pelham Plaza — Local services in Jacksonville

First off, I'm giving 3 stars because this review is of the Esther House THRIFT STORE, not Pelham Plaza as a whole. It's disappointing to see a ( non profit?) court ordered drug rehabilitation for women using a thrift store and the free labor taking to run it, as a guise to do nothing more than make a lot of money. And, I'd say these women likely work for not much more than merchandise, as I saw a lot of them -employees- loading up very full trash bags into an Esther House van.I understand that this is probably their only means of payment, but still there should be something left on the racks. Point being, don't expect to find very much in the way of women's wear, particularly denim. So, is that why this "thrift" store is pricing some second hand Walmart & the like brands, for example, at or even above their new counterparts!? And, it's unfortunate because you can find some really good quality and even cool vintage furniture here at times, but expect the prices to be ridiculously high here, even when and if they give you a "deal". So, aside from the (in my opinion) unethical "rehabilitation"/business model, sad to say, there's very little thrift going on in the Esther House...

Was kind of disappointed..been wanting to try out this thrift store for some time now. Maybe for older women (50s-70s) you can find some good stuff but this place doesn’t really cater to teens and young adults very much and the second I’d find a good item like a pair of jeans it was $25.00 which was absolutely ridiculous considering these are donation items they got for free. Most of the items in the store I wouldn’t even pay a $1.00 for. Center of Hope thrift stores have way better items at way more reasonable price points. Two stars just because the women at the...

My neighbor is the manager at this location in Jacksonville, AL, so I love shopping here when I do not want to be in the crowded local Walmart. This family dollar is convenient, clean, and affordable. I recommend Family Dollar for household cleaning supplies and pet care products and food. Also, for personal hygiene products.
