Unfortunately, my experience with Rathbone’s was less than perfect.
Short version: The Valentine’s Day delivery for my wife did not contain the number or quality of roses ordered, and both the filler and style of the arrangement were completely different. They were quick to remake the arrangement with the correct number roses and provided a slightly upgraded vase.
Long version: I found this florist online and used them for Valentine’s Day because of the number and quality of reviews. On their site, I ordered Rathbone's Flowers One Dozen Roses (103-2017) and did the “Premium” upgrade. According to their site, this ups the number of roses to 24, and “We will add more blooms and select the highest quality flowers we offer in this style.” So, I took this to mean they would cherry pick the best roses to use. In the notes, I indicated that I would prefer lavender roses, if available.
What my wife received was a smaller arrangement (an odd 13) with lavender roses that clearly were a bit older or had been warm for some time. Slightly browning was present, and some had some droop already. They did not appear to be long stem roses, and the blooms were rather small. The filler used appeared to be primarily statice or sea lavender, with a single alstroemeria/Peruvian lily. It was arranged in what appeared to be an all-sided style. However, the website showed that the filler for the vase was leatherleaf fern and blue eucalyptus. Pretty standard filler, and it gives the arrangement a nice fan shape. It also lends itself to creating arrangements that are best viewed from one side, and symmetrical, which the site seemed to show as radiating style in the photo. Now, I understand that substitutions are sometimes made and are necessary. And of course, this is indicated on the site, so they are upfront about saying so. Per their site, when a substitution is necessary, “…the local florist will ensure that the style, theme and color scheme of your arrangement is preserved and will only substitute items of equal or higher value.” Obviously in my case, not only were there substitutions, but the “style” of the arrangement was not preserved.
I called the florist and spoke with a manager. They were friendly and apologetic. They were quick to work up a new arrangement with the correct number of flowers. The first order was delivered to my wife’s office. The second I opted to pick up myself. The replacement arrangement still had some filler variation, but it did have the full 24 roses, and they did appear to be of the long stemmed variety. They weren’t bad, but not what I would consider “premium”. The blooms were still somewhat small, and many of the roses had noticeable bruising or brown spots. Additionally, they weren’t lavender as the previous order was indicated (replacements were red), but I didn’t mind since I wasn’t impressed with the lavender roses they had. They did however upgrade me to a more expensive vase, which was attractive, and actually only put it in about the price range of what I paid initially, including delivery.
As such I did receive the number of roses I ordered, but they didn’t appear to be what I would consider the “highest quality”, and the style of the arrangement was not the same as the site (radiating). While they were quick to remake an arrangement (at a very busy time), the replacement was still what I would consider mediocre, even with an “upgraded” vase. Had the site not made promises of “highest quality” roses (premium upgrade), and that substitutions would “ensure that the style, theme and color scheme of your arrangement is preserved”, I may have been less critical. While I was impressed with the friendliness and speed they remade the arrangement, the rest of my experience was mediocre to poor. As such, I feel a rating right in the middle is appropriate for my online experience. Read moreI don’t like to leave negative stars but this place really does need some better management. I ordered flowers and a balloon for valentines and the $5 balloons was never delivered. These are $1 store quality balloons but it’s valentines so I don’t mind paying for it delivered. What is the point of me overpaying for it then if you guys can’t even fulfill my order? When I called them about it they weren’t apologetic either. In fact, the lady kept saying they couldn’t hear me when I heard loud background noises either from a tv or someone else talking loudly next to them. Well duh... you can’t hear me miss! Turn down the Tv or tell the lady next to you to shut it!!! They just gave me back my refund and sent me on my way. You guys ever heard of keeping the customers happy?? Or at least offering a discount for next time or something for your mistakes. A customer is not only unhappy with your product but you made it worse with bad customer service. Also, I wouldn’t waste my time posting all this if I truly wasn’t disappointed in your business. I know you, the owner, responds to all negative review but you can go ahead and skip mine. There’s absolute nothing you can do to fix my situation because it’s already too late for that. You might as well fix your employees and keep this situation from future occurrences!
FYI... you have to call this place a couple times for them to pick up. The phone kept ranging the first time and they didn’t pick up. I called right back and surprise... it was picked up by a lady either too into her tv show or too into talking to her...
Read moreI just placed an order for my girlfriend. It was meant to be a surprise. When I ordered them I was asked what time I'd like them delivered, I said later in the afternoon, anytime after 4:30 when she would be at work. Instead they delivered them 2 hours early. They girls at the front desk of her work, of course called and told her what was there. So the surprise was ruined. When contacting the florist, I received no help. The communication is obviously not there. If I'm being told something from one woman and then hear the opposite from another . They then didn't even try to make the situation right, my order was not completed to the standard of which I ordered it. I gave the lady time to offer me a discount or a coupon or anything that would tempt me to do repeat business, but nothing . I will not use them again, I recorded anyone that wanting the flowers to be a surprise to use another company .
