At first I was in love with this place when we moved here three years ago. The prices in comparison to Home Depot or Lowes are always more competitive, but they offer no refunds or exchanges. It is this policy that is losing me as a customer. We have spent at least $200 just in the last two months for various plants, mostly the color special with a couple more expensive plants thrown in on each trip. One of the more expensive plants which we decided to splurge and buy was a Gardenia. I had one before I moved, and have waited three long years since to buy another one so we can enjoy that sweet fragrance again. It was the healthiest looking one I could find, and about 30" tall so a pretty old plant, but here we are less than two weeks later and it's almost dead. What frustrates me is how fast their plants die when you bring them home. My husband is in landscaping, and think they are probably watering twice a day in full sun (with the Gardenia and most plants there) and over-feeding the plants to the point that when you bring them home and try to care for them normally the plants get put under too much stress. All I did was move the plant one foot under a patio cover still facing full sun for two days, and fed it with granulated feed and not liquid feed, and it started to get sick immediately. Between the lack of sun, all the rain, and the tiny pot it was squeezed into it has been taking a few days to dry out. I tried transplanting it into a bigger pot in hopes that if it was root rot it would hopefully still survive, but it is going to die. It has gotten worse over the last three days since transplanting it. I might as well just throw $35+ taxes down into the toilet and wave goodbye, since that was pretty much my experience with this plant. None of my plants have died from root rot over this rain either...just this and a couple...
Read moreThis actually just happened to me. This location as well as others have been out of grass for a few days. I went there yesterday and was told Wednesday (today) or Thursday they get a shipment. I called to see if they had their supply and, of course, they don't answer the phone like many other Houston Garden Centers. Voice mail box is full which tells you that is just their practice. So I drive the short distance from my house to the 6072 Hwy 6 North location and upon pulling in I see several pallets of beautiful green grass. So, I go to the register where both employees are literally standing there waiting for something to do...no customers present. I ask for 15 pieces of grass and am told sorry, there is nobody here to load the grass for me. I reiterate that I only need 15 pieces and I will gladly load myself and have them check it. Nope, they have to load it. So I look around and see several employees walking around, watering plants, sweeping, etc. In fact there are literally more employees than customers on the premise while I was there. I am flabbergasted at this point and ask a male employee why he cannot come out and load 15 pieces and his reply is that he needs to stay at the registers-still no customers. Then I am told I can check with the manager-Brian. After I hunt him down thinking surely he will see how ridiculous this is and tell somebody to load my grass, he tells me that they just cannot sell any grass until 4:00PM and does not explain why. I go through my whole rational again and he isn't budging, no grass sale until 4:00PM. I don't know if Houston Garden is that poorly managed in general, or this is just the case of a location that can't see the forest for the trees. I will NEVER spend another dollar at this location and will think twice before shopping at ANY Houston...
Read moreFrequent often and typically have great service. The last 2 visits were horrible. In April, I needed flowers for a birthday celebration and arrived right before closing. Young employees watched me park and walk up, then told me they were closed and I had to leave. Missed out on a big sale. Left disappointed and went somewhere else the next day. Yesterday my mother and I (nor any other customer) was offered any assistance as we walked around for almost an hour. When approaching the register, there were 2 cashiers. I asked if we could check out with the cashier who was available and she said she wasnt open and to go to the other cashier (who was checking out a customer). When it was our turn my mother asked for a price check on a plant (neither cashier knew the answer). They then come up with a price of $16.99, the plant looked half dead. My mom said it was overpriced and left it. The available cashier was rude to her counterpart and belittled her as she trained her on the spot. Another customer appeared with the same amount of purchases and she left us with the inexperienced cashier, stating the other customer had a big purchase, so she would assist him. As we left, I realized my babys cup was misplaced, so I went back to search for it. Both cashiers were on their phones and neither looked up to address me or offer to assist. I searched the grounds, but did not find the cup. As I walked off, one mumbled under her breath and they both laughed. The only employee that did any work and actually offered assistance was Thomas. It seems like younger employees have no customer service skills or manners and do not want to do any work. I will not be returning to...
